Please help me decide between these two coats

I work outside a lot and need a light-ish coat with a hood for rain or showers.

I currently have both of these at home and can't decide.

Option 1 - Jigsaw:

www.jigsaw-online.com/product/rosier-long-parka/J32362_GN077

Option 2 - Joules:

www.joules.com/Women/New-In/Coast/Waterproof-Jacket/Berry?id=W_COAST|BERRY

in the berry colour.

What would you go for?

I like both but the Joules one says it's waterproof whereas the Jigsaw Parka says water repellent (is that the same, I don't know?)

I think the parka would go with more with it being khaki but the Joules one looks more up to the job of keeping you dry. They are both lovely styles though imo.

If keeping dry wasn't a pressing issue I'd maybe choose the parka but in terms of looking nice as well as keeping you dry, I think the Joules would be my choice.

MrsBadger · 22/06/2017 13:18

Ditto.

Jigsaw one is stylish but will not actually keep you dry. I confess I wouldn't have bought the Joules because of the colour choice.

Have you looked at Seasalt?

Catherine0317 · 22/06/2017 14:57

The jigsaw one is more stylish but not waterproof. Do you have an existing waterproof one? Then if so then mayb u don't need that feature.

NC4now · 22/06/2017 15:06

Both nice but the berry one has the edge for me.

AteRiri · 22/06/2017 15:14

Berry.

ZaraW · 22/06/2017 18:43

Jigsaw is much nicer.

BikeRunSki · 22/06/2017 18:49

Water repellent basically means "showerproof" but will get soaked in heavier rain (I used to work in the Outfldoor industry and could tell you about the tests for waterproof and water repellency if you really wanted). If you need to stay dry, go for waterproof. Joules also have heritage as an outdoorsy brand. Jigsaw is fashion led.

I work outside a lot, particularly in heavy rain. We have waterproofs supplied, but if I had to get my own, I'd head to a specialist outdoor retailer and look at some serious outdoor brands like Berghaus, Marmot, Sprayway - or Patagonia if money were no object.

Mummamayhem · 22/06/2017 18:52

Berry's out of stock.but it's nice!

ZaraW · 22/06/2017 19:24

I have a 66 North water proof raincoat, designed for Icelandic fishermen it's reasonably stylish and is waterproof.

ShmooBooMoo · 22/06/2017 19:27

Lookswise, I much prefer the Jigsaw one. However, the Joules one will keep you drier. So, depends if you are interested in style or practicality...

MrsD79 · 22/06/2017 19:28

Joules in navy. Thats just me though. I love their wellies but they dont last. I have a longer navy guess one. Jigsaw one is quite pricey i think.

Bluntness100 · 22/06/2017 19:31

The jigsaw one is much nicer.

Dancergirl · 22/06/2017 19:46

That's the problem shmoo I want BOTH style and practicality! Smile

I have the Joules Coast coat in another colour from last season. Can vouch for it being waterproof - completely so! It's lovely quality though not brilliantly warm so perfect if you want a light-ish coat.

Dancergirl · 22/06/2017 21:01

Actually I might consider the Joules one in another colour but I quite like the berry.

I don't have one, and have never tried them, but follow outdoor clothing threads on MN and Didrikson gets raves for style and waterproofing every time.

Intransige · 22/06/2017 21:14

I like the Jigsaw one. Do you need it to be waterproof? I have a proper waterproof Seasalt coat but as I really dislike walking in the rain and avoid doing so at all costs I could probably manage with just a fashion one!

Abra1d · 22/06/2017 21:16

My friend had the Jigsaw one and it seemed to do well in rain. Looked lovely.
