Witch hazel toner?

I NEVER go on Mrs Gloss anymore but I did today and it seems witch hazel toner is the new trend. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

I thought that witch hazel solution had gone out of fashion because it contained lots of alcohol and (allegedly) burned your face off? It was everywhere in the 1980s when the advice was to use 'an astringent' if your skin got a bit oily.

I often use witch hazel just for the refreshing feeling. Don't think it does much but it can calm down any spots. I just buy a bottle from the chemist. No alcohol in it.

I remember using that in the 90,s when I had acne and it made it worse.
I can't believe it's still about to be honest.
There are lots of different toners and cleansing waters about nowadays and I wouldn't advise that one as I remember my skin burning and going bright red.

I'm on Mrs Gloss and tbh there is a lot of tosh.

WH is an astringent. It might work for a bit on oily skin but then your skin will dry out and pump out more oil to compensate.

I have super sensitive skin. What you need is regular cleaning with a product that has oil in it - grease to take off grease -not products that strip the oil from your face.

I'm a fan of Eve Lom, but even M&S do a hot dual cloth cleaning now.

Dry your face out and you might look good for a week. It's not a long term solution.

DM,
Yes I totally agree with you.
Asda also does a great cleansing water, but it all depends on your skin and what if any problems it has.

I use witch hazel on my face almost every day. It's the "pure" one with no alcohol in though, and I use moisturiser afterwards

It may have made my face a teeny bit more oily, but I also no longer have any dry patches (went from combination oily/dry skin to combination normal/oily) but i have a much more even complexion and no spots! Fancier alternatives (salicylic acid, glycolic acid etc) didn't work for me. Each to their own
