shoes for pebbly back and cobbled streets?

I'm going to croatia soon and taking hand luggage only (I always do unless I'm going away indefinitely). I'll wear one pair of shoes and take a second pair with me. Having never visited anywhere with pebbly beaches, or walked for hours around a blistering hot cobbled city as I hope to in dubrovnik, what footwear would you suggest I take? Heels aren't a problem as I only wear flats.

Pebbly back? 😂 doesn't sound appealing. I meant beach. Really should put my sunglasses on when trying to read and type whilst outside......

Are you planning to wear dresses or shorts?

Regardless I'd probably suggest trainers or sketchers.

If i was you then i would be taking my light mesh trainers and my Birkies. Both are good on rugged terrain and in the heat.

poppym12 · 19/06/2017 13:24

Mostly wearing dresses and short flippy skirts. Maybe my birkis to travel in, pack Nike roshe as they weigh hardly anything and possibly a pair of dressier flip flops for evenings (if I'm not doing much walking).
I've never worn trainers when its been hot. Do they not turn your feet into a sodden blistering wreck?

I have to admit that I make the MN cardinal son of wearing trainer socks with my mesh trainers. White ones at that. Am wearing them right now - see picture. My feet remain cool and comfortable.

I love Birkenstocks Gizeh. They're robust enough for power-walks with the dog in this heat and never give me that ache you get from crappy thin soled flip-flops like Havaianas.

poppym12 · 19/06/2017 15:03

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll get some trainer socks blue because lots of walking in hot weather makes even my ancient moulded to the shape of my feet and oh so comfortable converse rub after a while.

Is it likely to rain in dubrovnik in July snow?? If it does I'll have to buy a snazzy kagool or something to add extra style to my trainer socks. And not a shite I will give.

These suggestions do mean that I have no excuse to buy anything new to take as I have all the things mentioned. Curse you all Grin

I went round Rome in trainers with the thickest soles I could find plus memory foam insoles.

Was worried I would look like the fashion dead but absolutely everyone had dressed with cobbles in mind and trainers (and trainer socks!) were the norm.

I'd guess Dubrovnik may be similar - people who live there are going to be practical for their feet.

poppym12 · 19/06/2017 21:05

I wear converse or trainers with skirts and dresses anyway so I don't think I'll suddenly become fashion conscious 30 years too old for that in Croatia. Will see if my trainers are more comfortable with insoles but I think trainer socks just in case should do. Maybe if my trainers rub my feet, I can switch to birkenstocks and leave the socks on Grin

Don't believe anyone who suggests wedges. Trying to walk over cobbles in wedges is quite an experience.

poppym12 · 20/06/2017 06:39

I'm more likely to be barefoot than wearing wedges nettle. Horrible things Grin

I have just been to the Peak District over the hot weekend and wore Merrell walking sandals all weekend, not the most fashionable but comfy over stones and cobbles and cooler than trainers
