I have hair like a bunch of dried out sticks

Can anyone help me?

I do the curly girl method, although have very fine hair so I condition every day. It looks even more of a mess if I don´t. I have tried silicone free hair masks but haven´t found a good one. I am loathe to waste any more money.

I have tried adding coconut oil to my conditioner which did nothing. I tried putting some normal conditioner on while still towel dried and leaving it there, which made it all flat and matted after the first 30 minutes or so. I have tried adding olive oil to my normal conditioner and using as an intensive treatment. This looked really nice until I put styling product on it (mousse). I need the styling product to keep the curl in, otherwise it drags out.

I live in a very hot country and it seems to have got worse since summer started although I am not out in hte sun much as I am a redhead. Could this be it?

Any more ideas would be gratefully received. I do need silicone free ideas. With silicones my hair looks nice for a couple of days and then drags out.

I've been trying to post a picture this afternoon but for some reason it won't load. Is it worth just doing the olaplex3 by itself or do you need to have the salon treatment too?

Does anyone know what causes the keratin problem? I do eat a good diet with lots of vegetables, olive oil, oily fish avocado etc ( Mediterranean diet - I am in a Mediterranean country!)

I have had salon Olaplex 1 and 2, which I think is excellent, I bought 3 but it doesn't do much. You can get 1 and 2 in small amounts from sellers on eBay.. about a tenner.

Thankyou. I'll see if i can find it in a salon here . Is it usually for just with a colour?

I had my hair cut short - then it looks glossy and healthy! (I leave conditioner on for the duration of my shower and rinse it off at the end). Even a short bob it looks like straw!

margaritasbythesea · 18/06/2017 16:01

It may come to that checklist!

Does anyone know if salons only do olaplex with colour?

You can have olaplex 2 I think if you are just having a cut but please double check. Olaplex 3 is fab but I find I have to leave it on overnight. It doesn't seem to do anything to the condition but my twice bleached black hair is only now starting to split since my cut in April. I can't recommend it enough.

The cheapest I have found is the twin pack on amazon

MeOnSea · 18/06/2017 16:14

Have you tried leave in conditioner? My fine curly hair likes this one: m.lookfantastic.com/label.m-leave-in-conditioner-300ml/10544037.html

Also, don't know if you can get it where you are, but this is cheap and works wonders: www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Hydrate-&-Shine-Conditioning-Masque-with-Coconut-Water/p/392603

Thanks Chuck

Meonsea I feel like I have tried everything but I haven't tried that one. I am fed up of forming out money on products but perhaps I just need to try a fee more expensive ones.

Does your mousse have glycerin in it?

I have fine wavy hair and I'm finding the stuff that worked for me two weeks ago before it got hot is suddenly making my hairs dry frizzy mess and I think it's the combination of glycerin and hot weather that's doing it.

margaritasbythesea · 18/06/2017 18:11

Ooo I'll have a look.

Olaplex No.1 is added to colour, Olaplex No. 2 is the salon treatment. The only real difference between Olaplex No.2 and No.3 is the concentration of the active ingredient that repairs the broken bonds. No.2 works faster because it has a higher concentration. If you leave No.3 on longer, you'll get a similar result, because the active ingredient continues to repair bonds as you leave it on (up to a certain point).

(If you have a good relationship with your hairdresser, you could try asking them to add a couple of drops of Olaplex No.1 to your Olaplex No.3 take-home treatment. This will bump up the concentration of the active ingredient. If they do this for you, don't leave the treatment on for more than 20 minutes, as it will be more intense.)

Having a good diet improves the keratin in your hair, but all hair loses protein through washing, blow-drying etc.

I have fine, coloured hair, and I find the key to keeping it in the best condition is a weekly Olaplex mask, with a mid-week protein or moisture mask (alternating, because you can overdo protein masks).

I've worked in the hair industry, and can say hand on heart that if you can afford to buy the best products, do so, because it really makes a difference. There's no comparison between drugstore/supermarket products and really top-shelf salon products. And it doesn't mean you need to buy a million styling products, in fact, the top brands make products that are really targeted, so one product should be able to perform in multiple ways (eg add volume, moisture and smoothness).

Thankyou. That's really useful. I currently don't have a hairdresser I like and am going out to find a new one today. I haven't seen olaplex advertised here so I'm going to have a snoop in the fancier salons and see if I can find it.
