Another bloody Saltwater question! - Saltwater sandals for kids

DavetheCat2001 · 13/06/2017 09:36

Has anyone bought a pair of saltwater for their DC?

My DD is 3 (nearly 4) and I am considering getting her a pair as our holiday is coming up and I like the fact that they can be worn in water as well (no need to take 2 pairs of sandals).

They are pricey though (I have a a pair and LOVE them), kids feet grow fast so not sure how much wear she would get from them etc....but my reasoning is she needs a new pair of sandals anyway, and perhaps it's better to spend a bit more on one good pair than 2 cheaper pairs?

Anyone got wisdom to help me decide? I sent OH a link to the one's I was thinking of getting and the reply I got back was 'HOW MUCH???????!' Hmm

We're regretting the pair we bought DD as the straps hurt her heels... But they DO look v nice, and it's lovely to have summer shoes that can be used for paddling.

Ah thank you for posting mrsmayitstimetogo. I did think the straps looked a bit hard on the heart cut out ones I was considering. My DD LOVES anything yellow so I was going to get her the bright yellow ones.

They are £50 though with p+p..it'sa lot for a kids pair of sandals isn't it..?

Do you think the straps will soften up on your DD's ones? Are you going to send them back or stick with them? Maybe getting them wet and letting them mould to her feet might help loosen them up?

I bought them for my 10 year old and 6 year old DDs. Both are from the Sun-San range which have a more supportive footbed than the classics. We had a little bit of initial rubbing/blisters across the top off the foot where the front strap goes, but the leather is softening up nicely and wetting and wearing does seem to help. I figure that most new shoes will rub a bit and I'd rather have some really sturdy leather ones that last and can be worn in and out of the water. Within a couple of days of wearing over half term they were completely comfy for my 10 year old. The 6 year old's are still a little stiff but she's not worn them as much.

We had a pair for DD when she was 3. I got them for £15 in the sale because they were the last pair (bargain!!!). She wore them quite a bit, but also complained they weren't that comfortable compared with the Clarks Doodle sandals.
When I tried them on my younger DD recently she said they were uncomfortable and wouldn't wear them.
It's a lot of money to spend on something they might not like wearing.
From my experience I would not buy another pair and would stick to Clarks Doodle. They don't look as nice (though found a muted green colour for my DD that was better than the bright pink!), but they are so light and comfy. They are also fine to go in water and dry quickly afterwards.
But, for a child who wears them all summer, I think you could justify the cost. Just a shame you won't know until you buy them what the reaction will be!

DD has worn them way too much to return... I think I probably wouldn't buy them for a tiny - Clarks or Start Rite are softer, more padded, more forgiving. And just as good quality.
Tiny saltwater are super-cute tho...

DavetheCat2001 · 13/06/2017 11:20

Yes they do look lovely don't they!

I have previously bought Doodles for both my kids and I have to say they do fit well and I've never had any complaints.

Hmm..my finger continues to hover over the 'buy' button!

I'm amazed they're not comfortable because mine are super comfy. Then again I'm not a toddler...

DavetheCat2001 · 13/06/2017 12:15

Yep mine are super comfy! I've actually ordered a pair. Will send them back if they don't suit.

I like the technical sandals from places like Ecco for when my kids were small and we went to the beach a lot.

The saltwater ones are leather so not sure why they are recommended for use in water

they look so so uncomfortable
