How do you get smooth legs?

Chocwocdoodah · 11/06/2017 21:39

I used to get my legs waxed now and then (usually just before summer when I could wear trousers while I was growing the hair long enough) and was always pretty pleased with the results. However the past 3 times I've had waxes (at different salons) I've had stubble within a few days rather than smoothness for a few weeks as you'd expect from a wax. It's like the hair breaks rather than pulls out from the root.

So how can I get smooth legs? If I shave, I always have that plucked chicken look - where you can see dots where the hairs are just below the surface IYSWIM. I see women all the time with lovely, smooth non-dotty legs - how do they do it??!

I'd love to know too.

Mine are better than before, mind you. I use an epilator a couple of times a week, and use a moisturizer with a bit of fake tan.

wobblywonderwoman · 11/06/2017 21:43

I use veet and leave a day then tan.

But I am considering buying an epilator or saving up for a laser product

Emily003 · 11/06/2017 21:45

Exfoliate, use the Venus razor, moisturise twice, one being a gradual tan!

ASauvingnonADay · 11/06/2017 21:48

Lumea IPL

Chocwocdoodah · 11/06/2017 21:51

Veet as in the hair removal cream? How long does the hair need to be?

Lumea IPL - just looked it up, bloomin expensive! How often do you have to use it?

I use Gillette Venus Spa Breeze razors and moisturise with Nivea Q10 Firming Body Lotion every day which keeps my skin beautifully soft.

CaulkheadUpNorf · 11/06/2017 21:54

I second veet. I don't let I get long before using it, it's much better than it was in the old days!

SerfTerf · 11/06/2017 21:58

Epilator. Definitely.

BastardBernie · 11/06/2017 22:00

Shave with conditioner and moisturise Wink

MissEliza · 11/06/2017 22:01

I used VEET for the first time last week and I'm a convert. My legs are much smoother than when I shave and no horrible cuts! I thought it smelled fine but when dd walked into the bathroom afterwards her reaction suggested otherwise!

chocolatespiders · 11/06/2017 22:04

Put body oil on and then shave

FunBoyThree · 11/06/2017 22:05

I don't, generally. I would save your energy and give up caring, it's a lot more enjoyable. Grin

gingercat02 · 11/06/2017 22:13

Epilator but you have to.use it regularly and lots and lots of moisturiser

Chocwocdoodah · 11/06/2017 22:31

Ok, so it sounds like I need to try Veet or an epilator. How long/how many days do you let it grow before Veeting?

I don't remove the hair, then they are soft and fluffy as opposed to sharp and stubbly.

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/06/2017 22:46

I shave ankle up, then go back over knee down if I want super-smooth. Use Gillette Venus and L'Occitane almond oil.

ASauvingnonADay · 12/06/2017 06:38

The lumea you use fortnightly I think for 4-5 sessions - I'm totally bald and soft skinned on the areas Ives used it (bikini line). I've just started using on my legs so hoping for the same result as I have the same problem with my legs! It's expensive but fully worth it.

Cantusethatname · 12/06/2017 06:44

I have the SmoothSkin Gold and it is the best money I have ever spent. I did it every week for 12 weeks which was very tedious and time consuming. I go over some bits very occasionally and sometimes I see a few spindly half hearted hairs appear on my legs, I can whisk them off with a dry razor in seconds. I have dark hair and pale skin.

LetLoveWin · 12/06/2017 06:48

Another vote here for laser removal. I had 12 sessions in total, now epilate for total smoothness every 2-3 weeks. Could have further sessions or buy a home remover, but can't be bothered with the shaving inbetween sessions and epilation takes only a few minutes now there are barely any hairs left :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2017 06:48

Waxings a long term commitment, it takes 3 waxes to get the hairs all growing in the same cycle & longer to achieve 6 weeks hair free.

When you pluck a hair you put it back into the growing phase, waxings about plucking them out so often they just give up growing again.

Hormones will affect hair growth too.

raindropstea · 12/06/2017 08:22

Laser hair removal isn't permanent. I've read loads of reviews and I just can't bring myself to spend the money on professional treatments in a salon when it's going to grow back. It should be called laser hair reduction because that's really what it is - reduction of the hair.

I might invest in the lumea but I know it will be something I have to keep doing (and have heard it hurts like mad). Epilator is also on my radar but I can't decide how much I want to torture myself. For now I use a men's mach 3 razor and grape seed oil. 😊

I also hate those damn dots after shaving!!! I feel your pain.

ASauvingnonADay · 13/06/2017 06:44

Raindrop - I did my bikini line a few years ago and it hasn't grown back at all! I can't say the same for my legs as haven't done them fully yet

BusterGonad · 13/06/2017 07:03

Has Veet really changed? I have thick black hair and it never used to work, I'd love smooth legs!

namechange20050 · 13/06/2017 07:10

raindropstea using a Lumea doesn't hurt. I have one. Bikini line can feel slightly warm but you can turn the intensity of the flashes down.

SimplyNigella · 13/06/2017 07:12

Lumea, Gillette Venus during treatment and This Works Dry Leg Oil.
