Big ugly eyebags!

ChocolateRaisin09 · 11/06/2017 18:07

I think it's partly genetic, as my mum and sisters all have them too, but what can I do?!

The only concealer that seems to cover them is Benefit Erase paste but it's a bit expensive!

Any tips on eye creams, DIY stuff, concealers, diet etc?

cheer up Mrs May, you'll soon have olenty of time to sort it out.

ChocolateRaisin09 · 11/06/2017 19:21

Let's hope she will! But unfortunately I'm much younger than that cockwomble, but still look as awful!

I have hereditary eye bags and bloody hate them! I've always struggled for years to disguise them with zero success. In the end I took the plunge and spent a few hundred on an Endybleph course. What a difference! I still have a problem with puffiness but it's been such an improvement. I'll get it done again in a few years.

Make up wise - I use Cargo HD Picture Perfect concealer. Apply it in a V shape so not just under the bag.

It's a horrible feature to have isn't it?

Softkitty2 · 11/06/2017 19:52

I use the bobbi brown peach corrector under mac or a nars concealer -- not cheap though.

I have recently purchased the nyx orange corrector.. It is ok but nothing beats the bobbi brown corrector.

auberginesrus · 11/06/2017 20:14

I found the Skyn Iceland under eye treatment has made a massive difference to mine - not cheap though.

I have been using M&S Autograph serum concealer to cover the dark circles. What surprised me was needing the darker colour (medium-dark) even though I am quite pale (so the colour range may be too limited). It is £12 but I got it on a 20% off offer. I think it is meant to treat the cause of dark circles. I have not tried many other specific under eye concealers but I'm pleased with it. It lasts all day and does a better job than my Stila (all purpose) concealer pot. I have not tried any of the brands above so cannot compare, and am a bit new to concealers .

Funnyfarmer · 11/06/2017 21:51

I have too.
It was also the one of the 1st things I noticed about my dd.
I've heard coffee granulas work. Think I read it on here. Not tried it yet though.

Nicketynac · 11/06/2017 22:29

I am using a caffeine solution from the Ordinary. Cost about a fiver and is a 30ml bottle and will last for ages. Helps with puffiness but not dark circles (I have only been using it for three weeks so I don't know if it has other effects in the longer term) so you will still need concealer.

blueshoes · 11/06/2017 22:56

Is it dark circles (sunken) or is it puffiness?

If it is the latter, some people say to use haemorrhoid cream. It did not really work for me but try that. If the reason is water retention, maybe that might work for you.

Otherwise, I think the most effective solution is cosmetic surgery, a lower blepharoplasty. It removes the fat pads that causes the bumps under the eyes, that is often genetic. No amount of cream is going to shrink those fat pads.

RhythmAndStealth · 11/06/2017 23:11

Dr Alkaitis Eye Cream, Apivita Eye serum.

madmomma · 11/06/2017 23:40

Mine are huge and I've always had them. The best disguise for mine is the bobbi brown corrector, concealer, powder and priming eyecream. £££ but the cheaper stuff doesn't cut the mustard unfortunately. I also do facercise for them, which helps a lot. I'm looking at blepharoplasty eventually though. Mine looks like I've been punched because one side is worse.

MrsAHotch · 11/06/2017 23:50

If it's dark circles, I've had to do a whole update on tackling mine as no concealer alone was good enough at all. Started with a colour correcter, covered with a very light foundation and then a tiny bit of concealer and they're not at all noticeable any more.

If you can/are comfortable with someone at a makeup counter showing you what to try and grabbing some samples, is give it a go. I had someone at a MAC store do it for me and he showed me that a couple of very light layers were much more effective than throwing on an inch thick layer of concealer and hoping for the best.

muphys · 12/06/2017 08:36

I am also battling a bit with puffiness at the moment, too many late nights and that sort of thing.

I went to the Clarins counter to get a sample of eye cream, and she told me that there is now a new suggested way of using eye cream to make the puffiness less. So instead of using your ring finger and patting it on, shove it on, then under your eyes (on the baggy bit) push three fingers with a a bit of pressure on the eyebag pushing up slightly. yeah it does sort of look like you're in a horror movie for a bit as the bottom eyelid pops up a bit, well mine does and first thing is the morning is somewhat scary.... but I have been doing it about 2 weeks now... and seems better. Not sure if its less late nights though... worth a try.

And concealer for me made it look so much worse.

ChocolateRaisin09 · 12/06/2017 09:32

Oooh, thank you, lots of food for thought here. Yes I've heard of facial massage too, and I think it does help when I gently do circular movements, it's meant to work out the toxins or something?

There's no way I could afford surgery, that's too scary anyway!

I'm going to look up all these products, and that is a really good point about too much concealer making it worse... Going to a make up counter is a fab idea, in fact I need a general rehaul in the make up area anyway as when I look at photos I feel like I look like I'm in drag. How embarassing.

It's usually just dark circles but every now and then (like yesterday) they puff up and I look ridiculous, maybe that was due to tiredness and too much wine... hmmm....

My not so secret weapon is glasses. My prescription is so mild I could easily do without them, but after wearing them I had so many people comment on how young they made me look I'm hooked now. And the only thing they change about my face is that they cover my eyebags, so I think that must be it...

bojorojo · 12/06/2017 11:50

Eye bags when you get older are fat deposits and a plastic surgeon is the only answer I'm afraid so start saving.

Youthful puffiness due to nights out is different and any cooking serum should work. Dark circles are different again and a blended in concealer should help.

Funnyfarmer · 13/06/2017 09:33

I've just read that higher pillows help too.

Onceafortnight · 13/06/2017 13:12

When a make up artist put concealer on my dark circles/bags she applied it with a little brush and I looked like a completely different person. I bought the concealer but have never managed to replicate it myself. So I think it's the technique not the product!

Maudlinmaud · 13/06/2017 13:21

I had some sort of serum applied in a shopping centre by a company who sold a product that works instantly. They did one eye and I could really see the difference. When they applied it I was told not to move my face for a few moments and I felt an odd tightening sensation. Long story short I didn't part with my cash that day and can't remember the name of the product or company.

Onceafortnight · 13/06/2017 13:34

Oh I bought that product too. Its very expensive. I used to use it before a night out and it was amazing but it only worked until you cracked a smile.

Maudlinmaud · 13/06/2017 13:59

@Onceafortnight do you mean the product I mentioned? If so could you tell me the name, I've searched and searched.
