Where are the comfy shoes????

I'm going away on hols in a couple of months. It's a cruise to the Med, so will be doing a lot of walking - sightseeing, shopping, heading to the nearest bar - you get the drift. One of the tours we are taking is a 3.5 hour walking tour round Pompeii, so I need something with a thicker sole but lightweight and comfortable.

Last year I broke my foot before I went away so I got some cheap plimmies from H & M which were the only ones that could accommodate the padding and bandage. They weren't too bad but I could feel every cobble and stone underfoot and it's much the same with my Converse so have discounted those.

If it helps, I'm 54 and am told that I usually look stylish and elegant (blowing my own trumpet here Grin) so I want something that I can wear with knee length shorts/crops and also a knee length dress. Can anyone point me in the direction of some comfy shoes for walking that are not trainers or look like surgical shoes or make me look like someone's granny (apologies to all grannies who may be reading this thread!).

Well, only you know what you think look like granny shoes! - but perhaps try Hotter?

I bought these last year and walked miles in them.

They're not exactly elegant, but look ok with shorts or crops, I'm not sure if they'd look good with a dress though!

I've walked round Pompeii and tbh I wouldn't worry too much about your feet looking elegant, it's probably more important not to sprain your ankle. Some of the streets are very uneven. Most of the women on the walking tour I took were wearing trekking-style sandals, or trainers. Hth.

Have a great time Smile

I am currently on holiday and have done a lot of walking. Bought these www.mountainwarehouse.com/jasmine-covered-toe-womens-sandals-p16126.aspx/brown and have worn them all day every day. I think they look nice, but your taste may be different. Definitely comfy though & 2 adjustable straps.

I keep typing out replies and losing them, so just going to give you the link. These are the most comfortable shoes ever ( I clambered around ruins in Turkey with them!)

I need these too. Basically looking for skechers level comfort in a shoe that doesn't look like Skechers this doesn't exist does it

Thanks everyone for all your replies. Some really good links and ideas which I will be happily investigating Grin

I have these which are great, have walked miles in them Geox plus worn with jeans and dresses.

I agree with Missingthesea. For walking around Pompeii you need practical and comfortable shoes with sturdy soles. The ground is very uneven. Don't even think about wearing flip flops round Pompeii, and definitely no heels.

I wore trainers and my feet were sooo hot.

MinesaPinot · 09/06/2017 08:50

NumbersRule Those are fab and more the sort of thing I was looking for....and they're in the sale and in my size!

Missing and Astonished Thanks for your tips about Pompeii, it's exactly the impression I got. I know that trainers really would be the sensible choice, but my feet get really hot at the best of times so I wanted to avoid them if I could. I'm really looking forward to it though!
