MBT Trainers - Are they worth it.

I was looking at these as was going to buy some new trainers for walking to work. Are they really worth £150? I've seen some on Ebay but would like some opinions before paring with the readies.

I love mine!
Very comfy but don't buy them expecting to have legs like Elle McPherson within a week.{grin]

They have definitely improved my posture though and I can definitely feel my muscles working differently.

By best friend however refusses to be seen out with me in them as she says they look like "lezzer" shoes

gscrym · 19/03/2007 17:08

They do look a bit odd. Lol at 'lezzer shoes' though.

I might book an appointment with the place that fits them near us. I suppose if I wear them loads then they'd be worth it. The last pair of Merrill boots I bought have finally gave up after almost 5 years of constant wear.

What do they do? What are they for? I walk a lot these days (often do 45 minutes to an hour's brisk walk in one go, pushing a pram), so interesting shoes might be a good option.

I have had mine 2 weeks and I am impressed. The hardest bit is standing in them as it really makes you stand tall. I have found that even when I am not wearing them I stand better as I am more aware. It is hard to tell if they are actually worth the money though as I didnt have back problems before, and I am now pg so Im not expecting any improvement in the size of my thighs in the next few months!

Whoooosh · 19/03/2007 17:14

If you walk a lot then I reckon they would definitely be worth it.
Would highly recommend you have them fitted though (got mine in John Lewis) as they really do need to fit properly to be effective.

here gives some background

I absolutely love mine. I wear them a lot. Very comfy - definite improvement in posture and great for walking up hills. You really feel them work.

Whoooosh · 19/03/2007 17:18

Mine would definitely work better if I actually walked some distance in them instead of round the supermarket and back to the car

I've had mine a year now, and I agree with what Whoosh and piglit have said re posture and muscles. I think they definately gave me a lift in the bum area, although I do go to the gym too, so that may have contributed to that.

I find that they sometimes make my lower back ache, but I think that's where they're correcting my posture.

The 'hype' in the media has said that they get rid of cellulite, but mine hasn't gone, and they make your stomach go down too. Not so in my experience.

I do really like them, and they are very comfortable and feel really supportive, but I don't know that I'd pay that money again for what are essentially a pair of trainers.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/03/2007 10:07

Do you end up walking slower? I am such a trainer junkie, I will probably try some on (I was admiring £200 trainers on Sunday - didn't buy any though).

Fauve · 20/03/2007 10:09

May be a daft question, but are they OK to run in?

Whoooosh · 20/03/2007 13:12

Apparently burn more calories running in them than any other trainer.....have no idea as have never run in my life....for anything.

faustina · 20/03/2007 13:40

I bought some two weeks ago after reading about them on here. I broke my ankle last october and it still hurts when I walk for more than about half an hour. Went to Sweaty Betty in the end. First went to small local retailer and couldn't find any that were the right fit, but sweaty Betty had velcro ones that were and are brilliant - honestly. My children think they are embarrasingly ugly but I am comfortable for the first time since they took the plaster off my leg. Wear them a bit at a time, if you do buy them, until you are used to them

MoreTeaVicar · 20/03/2007 13:49

I first got mine a couple of years ago and am now on second pair. They are so comfortable you can literally wear them all day, I often do. They are great for improving posture, but do you actually burn more calories when exercising, as they claim, I have seen no evidence
