Need smart casual work clothes on a tight budget

I've got a new job (yay!) but I've gone up a couple of dress sizes since I last worked. I'm dieting now so don't want to spend a fortune on things that will (hopefully) be too big before long. What can I get that will see me through the weight loss and not cost the earth?

Try TKMaxx, I got some great work stuff there for peanuts.

toriah · 05/06/2017 20:42

have you tried matalan?

Itsnothingoriginal · 05/06/2017 22:13

Congratulations on the new job!

Yy to TK Maxx. I got some lovely 'Lily and Me' tops there recently which are perfect for work with 3/4 length trousers or chinos. www.tkmaxx.com/search?q=lily+and+me

Also worth doing the charity shops of course. I get a lot of my work clothes from there and also Sainsbury's TU range.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 06/06/2017 16:21

H&M are good for stuff like this

MyGastIsFlabbered · 06/06/2017 19:28

Charity shops are usually where I'd go but isn't it always the way, you can never find stuff when you actually need (as opposed to want) it? I can never get my head round TKMaxx, it always looks like a jumble sale in there.

eBay? Bigger range and similar prices to charity shops, though you can't try on of course.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 06/06/2017 19:31

TU at Sainsbury's is brilliant.

dancingqueen345 · 06/06/2017 20:07

Do you have an M&S outlet store near you?

Matalan I find a bit hit and miss- they have nice tops but I find the dresses and skirts a bit cheap looking after a few washes. Maybe splash out on a good quality pair of trousers that you can pair with different tops?

LightastheBreeze · 06/06/2017 20:36

Next Clearance online, best to look in the early morning as they replenish their online stock in the early hours each day.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 06/06/2017 20:40

Agree with TU at Sainsbury's - some surprisingly nice stuff in there.

Fwend · 06/06/2017 20:50

Another vote for eBay.

My entire work wardrobe is second hand (primary school teacher), as I like nice fabric and am a difficult shape, but can't justify full-prices for clothes that inevitably get snot/glue/paint all over.

Mamia15 · 06/06/2017 20:55

Try H&M - I've got quite a lot of work stuff from there including jersey skirts, chinos, jumpers, smart t-shirts etc. The Gap is also worth a look.

HelenaJustina · 06/06/2017 20:58

Another vote for H&M or Sainsbury's

HelenaJustina · 06/06/2017 20:59

Really good if you don't want to spend a fortune, and the money you save can go towards nicer bits when you hit your target. Congrats on both job and weight loss!

skyzumarubble · 06/06/2017 21:17

Sainsbury's!

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 06/06/2017 21:20

Another vote here for H&M and Sainsbury's. H&M do good cigarette ankle grazer trousers in a range of colours and patterns. They wash and wear just as well as more expensive ones imo. Think they're approx £12.99.

GoodGirlGoneWrong · 06/06/2017 21:50

Sainsbury's is always one of my go to.

I also look on eBay regularly, I generally stick to the same style and brand so know what should fit,
