Can I take acrylic nails off myself?

Or is it not worth the hassle?

Google tells me I can soak them off, but is it a massive ball ache that I'll regret starting?

They're doing my head in and the nail shops are closed today.

Only very carefully. Have you got access to acetone?

I have acetone, and I usually soak off gel nails. Do acrylics take much longer? Is it really difficult to get the glue off?

You need to be patient, and not force them to help them. If you cover cotton wool pieces with acetone, and then use tin foil to make 'finger-gloves', then it will be less wear and tear on your hands. Maybe a warm-olive oil treatment after.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/06/2017 14:25

I wouldn't. Shop bought acetone is low quality, it'll take ages & you'll end up pulling them off which will ruin your nails.

I'm beauty therapist. They will take a while to soak off, ideally acrylics need to be soaked with whole finger tip in acetone as opposed to wrapping cotton wool in foil. Don't use a plastic bowl and cover your work surfaces well. Acetone literally spoils whatever it touches. You can use a file to gentle file acrylic off as it softens, the re soak. Use a good moisturiser afterwards and plenty of cuticle oil.

thanks for the tips guys. I'm so tempted to have a go whist I'm sat watching telly tonight. It would save me a couple of hours' trip into town tomorrow and they really are bugging me!

Why is it better to fully soak? I do have one of those five finger pots that I use for soaking off gels...

so I've been soaking and scraping for about an hour and only succeeded in getting the gel polish off. Is that normal? I watched a youtube video where she soaked her nails and the acrylic went all sqidgey and scrapable too. Why isn't it happening?!

If it's impervious to acetone it might be mma, it was banned in America but is legal here.

You have to grind it off. They make dental cement, bone cement & bullett proof glass.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 04/06/2017 19:49

Don't waste your time. It's probably mma and you won't get it off unless you file it. Let the salon take it off and if I were you I'd find somewhere that uses better products, normally the independent ladies

NemosKnickers · 04/06/2017 20:08

oh ffs! thanks for the tip off. It's a really crappy nail place, but it's cheap and all drop ins. I'll go elsewhere next time.

Can you cut them shorter to make them more manageable?

iMatter · 04/06/2017 20:55

I hacked mine off a few years ago when I couldn't get to the nail bar.

Had to wait for my nails to grow right out as I made a real mess of them.
