Dry flaky scalp

tiba · 03/06/2017 11:02

I've had a dry flaky itchy scalp for a good few months now

What I have tried so far -

Head and shoulders
Vosene
Johnsons baby shampoo
Tgel Coal Tar shampoo

Nothing has worked so far.
Is there anything else I could try?

I'm not over washing, and stopped using other products and don't blow dry or use heat stylers.

Hair otherwise is in good condition, thick, shiny, bouncy and not at all dry.

It's just the scalp issue

I found out that I was allergic to a chemical found in shampoos and makeup etc which was causing mine and rashes on my body.

When I went to the allergy specialist he told me to use t gel to clear the scalp up.

I've recently used Body Shop Ginger shampoo after seeing it recommended on here and it's really helped my scalp psoriasis.

Try Phillip Kingsley's dry/itchy scalp shampoo. I have psoriasis and used to use it, it was amazing. I don't really suffer on my scalp anymore.
It is pricy, but get the conditioner too. I used just the shampoo and it didn't feel overly soft

I would buy a really nice, organic shampoo, with no irtitating ingredients.

Also dentinox shampoo - it is for cradle cap but if it is gentle enough for babies, it is unlikely to hurt you.

Blow drying can actually help. If whatever is causing your scalp to be itchy is fungal, then leaving hair to dry naturally is just providing perfect warm damp conditions to keep growing.

I found it was the SLS in shampoos that caused mine, now using a SLS free shampoo bar and no itching and can wear black again! (You do go through a transition period of a few weeks though as your scalp adjusts)

Another huge vote for Body Shop ginger shampoo .

Onthehighseas · 04/06/2017 13:43

Yes to the Body Shop ginger shampoo, its really good and not expensive.

I used a shampoo with active ingredient ketaconazole (can't remember the brand name of the shampoo though, sorry! It came in a small white bottle and the shampoo itself was pink.) and it totally cleared it up.
It's actually an antifungal shampoo but the GP suggested that as none of the usual anti-dandruff/ dry scalp shampoos had sorted it maybe there was a fungal element Blush (grim, I know!) Not super cheap but very effective!

I recently switched to an Aveeno shampoo. It's doing the job so far, although my scalp starts to itch again after 2 days if not washed.

Moo goo shampoo and conditioner, with scalp cream- amazing stuff, has sorted out my eczema patches which I had behind my ears, up into my scalp and down the sides of my face!

tireddotcom72 · 04/06/2017 14:02

The ketaconozale shampoo is called Nizoral I use it when I get psoriasis flare ups there is also a cream you can use as sometimes I get patches on my hairline and behind my ears.

Jayneisagirlsname · 04/06/2017 20:27

Philip Kingsley is amazing stuff! Suffered for years, but all the flakes have gone since I started with this. Well worth the money and lasts ages.

curtainphobic · 04/06/2017 20:29

Alphosyl shampoo is amazing. I suffered from this years ago, and it really worked. So soothing. Hope you sort it.
