A line bright dress

I need to find a dress for a fairly formal occasion (but not as formal as a wedding).

It needs to be a bright colour (blue, green and purple normally suit me best).

I am size 10 hourglass shaped and would normally wear something like this

http://m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod107011100010200108374488-1

But I need to hide an early pregnancy bump, so i will probably need something a line.

My budget is around £100, but willing to stretch it if I find the right dress.

I would ideally like to wear my black, brown or tan kitten heels with whatever I get.

Does anyone have any suggestions for suitable dresses?

Any suggestions for a jacket or something to wear with it would also be gratefully received (can be in addition to the dress budget)

I'm not convinced an A line dress will conceal a small pregnancy bump. I think all it will take is some wind and it will be obvious that your tummy is rounded. How about a peplum style dress so you have some fabric draping around your belly while still looking smart?

I love the Karen Millan and the bargain blue one - thanks for the suggestions.

I'm happy to try anything to cover the bump, so peplums might be a good choice thanks

Something with draping would work well

How about coral?

I've always liked the colour combination of coral and ice blue, so something like this for a jacket? Longer length so as not to draw attention to your middle. Otherwise there are lots of coral/ivory jackets in the same style.

I agree that a-line is a bad idea, he cut draws attention to your middle. Something straight, skimming and loose/floaty will work better, with a jacket which doesn't finish at your waist.

k1yx · 03/06/2017 13:52

Thanks again for the suggestions. The draping is a good idea, but I think the dresses are too dressy.

I love the wallis jacket - I'll definitely be ordering that if I find something to go with it

How about this? Its a bit less dressy and I think would still disguise well. There are several colours and its pretty cheap. I really rate Amazon for dresses, Im always really impressed by the quality.

How do you feel about florals? A print might help to disguise. Pink Lily Boutique are in the US but ship to the UK quickly and cheaply and their stuff is really good quality

pinklily.com/dancing-in-the-moonlight-tie-dye-dress/ this would go with the Wallis jacket, depends if the colours would suit

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I'll order the two house of Fraser dresses and the aqua pink lily dress and see which looks best, as a starting point.

I tried this dress on in M&S today

http://www.marksandspencer.com/petite-printed-swing-dress/p/p22504415?image=SD011T422351PPJ4XXEC90&color=GREENMIX&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

It looked better than in the photos on the website and, so long as it wasn't tied to tightly, seemed to hide the bump. It's the sort of dress I'd wear anyway, so I don't mind buying it even if I don't wear it on this occasion.

I'll also have a look for some more drape-y dresses to see if that works better.

Thanks for all your help. I had no idea where to start this morning, and feel more confident that I'll find something suitable.
