How would you accessorise this dress for a wedding?

Dress here

Have decided on this dress and surprised myself a little because it's not a style I would usually consider but looked great on. I have nice shoulders/arms and small waist. I'm heavier than usual after my last pregnancy and this felt comfortable and like I could eat a meal and dance with ease, so all great! It's just very... prom like or princesssy. It poofs a fair bit. My usual taste is a bit more edgy. Cringing that I just said that but I'm thrown by shoes, accessories, jewellery etc. Been looking online for inspiration but just keep seeing things like nude or pink patent platform heels and very girly stuff with bows on and I'm not keen. It's also a fairly large block of dark colour and I can't wear a necklace with it to break it up a bit.

What would you do? I thought hair up to show the back and shoulders so I'm not so covered.

Lovely dress - id go for silver shoes, hair slide or clip, dangly earrings and bracelets

crazykitten20 · 02/06/2017 21:47

Cerise pink shoes and bag. No other accessories 😊

TitaniasCloset · 02/06/2017 21:50

Oh that's beautiful! Silver shoes and bag maybe? Nice earrings?

WankersHacksandThieves · 02/06/2017 21:55

Silver Wrap:

Matching shoes/clutch - is there a particular height/style you like?

You could get away with anything from ballet flats to high heels.

kaytee87 · 02/06/2017 21:56

Beige goes well with navy. A beige hatinator with simple high heel court shoes and clutch.

Splandy · 02/06/2017 22:07

I don't have my ears pierced so earrings are out. I definitely won't wear any sort of hat or fascinator. Shoes will be heeled but not sure of colour or style. I am leaning towards some sort of pink. Scarf or pashmina is a good idea - I hadn't thought of that. I liked the nude colour of the shoes and bag in this photo with the darker nails, possibly with matching darker lips? But my dress isn't as airy as that and I'm concerned it might not have quite same effect since mine is one large block of dark colour right up to my neck.

What type of bra would you wear with that dress?

I saw someone wearing a similar shape with a brooch on the waistline. Or it might have been a thin belt with a brooch bit!

Splandy · 02/06/2017 22:16

I'm not sure I would wear a bra.. might feel bit naked that way. Had a strapless low back bra on earlier but it was visible. Might look into one of those stick on ones just so I'm covered. I'm not large enough for it to be too much of a problem because the dress is fairly thick and draws attention to waist and poof rather than boobs.

I think a thin belt would be a really good idea to break it up. It's a bit loose on the waist so a belt might mean I don't need it taken in. Would you say this dress is very formal?

I think the beige shoes and clutch in that picture are lovely.

tigerdriverII · 02/06/2017 22:24

No - not a belt. Silver shoes, hair up and maybe a silver choker/chain at the neck.

It's very pretty. I wouldn't mix up too many colours.

Blondielongie · 02/06/2017 22:26

Its gorgeous, and fairly formal. I suppose it would be less formal if you wore it with less formal accessories.. like these wooden heels and maybe some wooden bangle (sounds horrible written down but in my head looks nice)

You are lucky you can go bra-less post kids. I'm 18months post bf-ing and still have to wear a bra to bed (crying emoji)

WankersHacksandThieves · 02/06/2017 22:27

If you google sash belt or bridal belt, loads come up.

Like the shoes and bag .

I would say that the dress could be formal or less so depending on how you dress it. It would be fab with converse or similar and not so formal at all :) But lovely all dressed up with high heels etc.

Autumnleaves105 · 02/06/2017 22:37

I would go cream court shoes or sandals and either a thin cream belt or a beaded necklace that hangs just below the neckline of the dress.

Splandy · 02/06/2017 22:45

Definitely not going for a very casual look. I'm hoping to wear it to two weddings and worry I may look overdressed at one.

Boobs aren't exactly great after breastfeeding but might just be able to get away with one of those stick on cup ones. Braless was probably overly optimistic Grin

Those of you saying necklace, what exactly do you mean? I'm struggling to imagine a necklace that would look right.

I think less is more is the way to go here. It;s a beautiful dress, and the back is the main event, so don't cover up with a wrap or scarf, leave the back visible. Hair up, no necklace. Shame you don't have pierced ears as I would have suggested simple small diamante stud earrings. A bracelet or bangle maybe, and a clutch.
Those nude shoes you link to would work.

Autumnleaves105 · 03/06/2017 09:39

This is the sort of thing I mean Smile

You can get lovely clip on earrings, house of fraser and debenhams do them.

burnishedsilver · 04/06/2017 14:31

Its a beautiful dress. It doesn't need much - silver shoes and bag, red or coral nails, hair up.

TeardropExplodes · 04/06/2017 14:36

I like cerise pink, orange or zesty yellow with navy. It's a different look to nude or cream, which can look a bit conservative IMO. Nice combo for the office but I'd go brighter for a wedding.

OlennasWimple · 05/06/2017 07:17

Please don't put a wrap around it, it would completely spoil it!

Hair up to show off the back.

Drop earrings if you can bear clip ons

Fab manicure and shoes, but otherwise keep it simple

Splandy · 05/06/2017 09:32

I might need some sort of wrap though. I think I can pop home for the first wedding so shouldn't be hanging around much but the second is going to be an all day one. I could look at some clip on earrings. I bought some for my own wedding two years ago but they looked so chunky and awkward on the ears that I couldn't wear them.

These are the shoes I have been looking at: 1, 2, 3 and 4. I quite like the first pair with the pearls but don't know whether the river island pair with the silver strap would be better in case I do need to wear a belt to pull in the waist. Would mean a silver belt could then tie in more easily.

Had a look at some clutch bags on Asos too but the only two that looked the right colour were a bit plain and meh.

NC4now · 05/06/2017 11:49

I like the pearl ones too, then the River Island ones. The others are nice - very similar to a pair I bought in Primark for a tenner a few weeks ago, so if you fancy a bargain, that's an option!
