Sandals that are comfortable without looking frumpy?

I'm in the search for some summer sandals. Wide feet, do a lot of walking. Fancy something that looks pretty, but will be comfortable and maybe have a bit of bounce in the step without being old woman sandals.

Birkenstocks don't suit my feet, can't walk in them.

Love flip flops but they hurt my lower back if I wear them for long.

Fancy something easy to slip on and walk all day if needs be.

Although it's maybe an age thing. I remember in my 20s wearing very thin flat sandals all day but
Now I'm about 40 it hurts my heel, my legs, my back

SlightlyCrumpled · 02/06/2017 19:09

I got these earlier in the week & so far, so comfy Smile. www.schuh.co.uk/womens/hush-puppies-ainsley-jade-tan-sandals/1758486220/

Those are lovely crumpled

I've ordered three pairs from Hotter Blush - "Sun", "Island", and "Resort - none of which are too horrendous. Someone on another recent thread had bought the "Tourist" style in metallic. Worth a look with an open mind!

Spudlet · 02/06/2017 19:14

I just got a pair of Earth Spirit sandals, and they are so comfy!

Teva are about the only sandals I find comfy. Most are fugly but I have a nice pair of brown leather ones I love.

I remember these back in 1971 when I was 5. School girls wore them with knee high white socks and hippy types wore them with unwashed feet! We called them Bible bashers as they were the sort of sandals that we pictured Jesus wearing!

DianaT1969 · 02/06/2017 19:38

I like Teva adventure style - got mine in TKMaxx in light pink.
Am also a fan of fit flop, but don't want to spend £65-£80 this year. Will make do with old pairs. Quite annoying that they don't bring the price down to what the materials and manufacture are actually worth. The technology was paid for years ago.
Anyone falling for the Saltwater marketing efforts on here need their head examined! Unless you're 25 and can still wear sandals with no cushioning whatsoever. In which case you'd probably be in something more stylish anyway. Smile

I can't do links 😁 But I've found Regatta Ladies Santa Cruz Walking Sandal. Fugly? or ok?

Some of these look pretty good.

Greenvalleymama · 02/06/2017 20:44

As with all shoes, you're better trying loads on and making a decision from there.

I have a pair of menorcan sandals (Avaracas I think) which I find really comfortable and like the look of, but I have friends who have bought them and don't find them comfortable.

I also have a lovely pair by Rieker, which I would usually consider a Granny brand, but I love them. The sole is spongy and I could walk all day in them, and they look cute too.

I found lots of different styles and brands to try on in TK Maxx. Teva, Ara, Avarcas, and many more. It's a good place to start.

I wouldn't buy sandals over the internet unless I'd had that particular brand and style before, there's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes on a hot day!

Greenvalleymama · 02/06/2017 20:50

DianaT I spotted Fitflops on M&M direct at half the normal price, starting at £30 and the most expensive were £40 max. I was tempted, but have so many pairs of sandals already, and I only wear them when it's super hot!

OhTheRoses · 02/06/2017 20:51

Some Hotyer are ok, some josef siebel are ok, some gabor are ok, some van dal are ok, some merrell are ok, some m&s footglove are ok. Depends on uour foot and the style. I can try on 15 pairs to find a comfy pair. Bought a pretty pair of hotters last summer

CloakandDaggerNameChange · 02/06/2017 20:54

Crocs sandals (not their clogs) can be really attractive and super comfy. I have a pair of their sexi flip flops and find them amazing. I have a really bad back and have no probs with these.

sunnyhills · 02/06/2017 21:12

Crocs fli[p flops do look good ,and I think there is a style with a fabric toe post .

TheDinnerWitch says she has large wide feet and has posted several styles which she feels she could wear on here

I'm 41 and have had saltwaters for the past few years. Some of the rest of me is wearing out a bit but my feet still seem OK.

naichick · 03/06/2017 06:13

I just bought some amazingly comfy ones from m&s!

diodati · 03/06/2017 06:20

Merrell. If you can find some on sale, so much the better but they're worth the cost IMO.

PrimalLass · 03/06/2017 06:33

Fitflops are narrow IME.

Saltwater are leather and v comfy somehow. I have two pairs and love in them.

I also like Birkenstock Florida sandals. They won't fall off.

ChipInTheSugar · 03/06/2017 09:28

Any of these take your fancy?

Greenvalleymama thanks for the tip on reduced fotflops. I'll check it out.

KeepCalm · 03/06/2017 18:42

Anyone know if Gabor are true to size? I went to try some today but they didn't have my size so will need to chance online....

Have a wee shot at these 'fly' ones but as lovely as they were, it's not in my budget to buy wedges when I need flats!!

The Gabor ones are the black ones in the top right of the pic.

Excuse the knackered birkies, you'll understand why I need a new pair Blush

Anyone know how Earth Spirit sizing is? I take a 6.5 if it's available, so am I best with a 6 or 7? Will need to buy blind (now in UK but got a flying visit next week, and need sandals!)

leccybill · 03/06/2017 19:17

I saw someone wearing the teal Teva ones and they are really nice in real life.
