Elusive Year 6 leaving party dress

There seems to be a gap in the market for this. It's either garish prom/flower girl dresses or prim Boden/John Lewis type things.
DD has a leaving party/prom. She is quiet and sensitive and worried she'll stand out so its hard to find exactly what she'll feel comfortable in.
RIver Island seem to have got it right, formal but sort of teen looking, can't see anything right anywhere else. Does anyone have any ideas of where else we can look? ? Thanks

When DD left Y6 for their leaver's get together I think she wore a little summer dress from Hollister - they do an XS (size 6) and sometimes an XXS (size 4) which often come up small anyway. Lots are very suitable even for pre teens - ie not all really short, clingy, and low cut.

Yvetteballs · 02/06/2017 11:05

Thanks Hulababy. I forgot Hollister (or Dark Shop, as we call it).

Monsoon?

Hulababy · 02/06/2017 11:07

Superdry sometimes has XXS too, though some of their dresses are a bit older looking. Not always though.

In Y6 much of DD's clothes were from the more teen like shops in small sizes.

SoupDragon · 02/06/2017 11:16

Gap is worth a look.

SoupDragon · 02/06/2017 11:21

New look has a few in their 9-15 range.

It's a difficult age to dress! I have a tall Y6 girl and have to be very careful what she wears as she can look older than she is.

My dd got a nice outfit from River Island for her Y6 leavers' disco. It was a matching top and skirt - very slightly cropped sleeveless top and a decent length skater skirt. Lovely outfit, and that was two years ago. Otherwise at that age then New Look 915 range has a good selection of trendy but not over-the-top outfits.

Thanks all. Will have a scan. I like this but DD says too flowery:

I also think Hollister is a good idea...the dresses are pretty but obviously fashionable and DD won't stand out too much.

user1491572121 · 03/06/2017 00:31

Yvette it is a nice dress but the high waist and that amount of pink and lace will look a bit babyish on a year 6 girl

Hulababy · 03/06/2017 13:28

Nice dress, but agree - I think in Y6 DD would have found that a bit too young looking.

On the RI page - maybe the bardot ones that have straps too? Or the ones with the mesh longer skirt bit - trying to think what DD might have liked.

She would have prob liked something more along these lines - and being younger and less developed than the model, the dress would have been less low cut/cleavage showing: www.hollisterco.com/shop/uk/girls-dresses-dresses-and-rompers-6962773/shine-chiffon-skater-dress-9498355_02?ofp=true or www.hollisterco.com/shop/uk/girls-dresses-dresses-and-rompers-6962773/off-the-shoulder-lace-dress-9498330_02?ofp=true

Hulababy · 03/06/2017 13:30

Superdry also has some dresses in XXS as well as XS.

Yvetteballs · 09/06/2017 14:23

Hello again all. DD now has this dress:
www.hollisterco.com/shop/uk/girls-dresses-and-rompers/off-the-shoulder-lace-dress-9498330_01?ofp=true
It's a little loose as she's quite narrow but might try to hold neck bit up with boob tape.
Dress code is smart. DD is shy and is not going to ask the other girls about what they're wearing so just wondered if you could help me with shoes. Do you imagine 11 yr olds will all be in heels? Grateful for any ideas. Thanks

NewLook do shoes with low heels in their teen range, if your DD is tall already heels may make her feel uncomfortably taller than her peers?

bojorojo · 09/06/2017 14:36

I would look at Zara. More up to date than Monsoon. Silver sandals are fine. Heels are a bit tarty in my view but some will totter in with full make up !

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 09/06/2017 14:44

In my experience, the year 6's don't tend to wear heels... our lot are more dresses and Converse or Superstars....

Yvetteballs · 09/06/2017 16:50

I talked to a couple of mums and the children are wanting heels. Several are getting their hair and make up done and might be arriving in a limo!!! It's only a party with pizza!
I think she knows her own mind well enough so flat or high, we should be able to find something.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 09/06/2017 16:58

Even for teens heels seem less popular for parties at the moment. DD tends to wear her dresses with trainers, such as Superstars, in the spring/summer, at the moment.

Though does have heels for more formal occasions.

bojorojo · 09/06/2017 19:04

I think 11 year olds in heels is pretty naff. There are great alternatives around. As for the limo - clearly not a jam neighbourhood!

Yvetteballs · 09/06/2017 22:26

I don!t think DD will want heels luckily.
