Hair dye and Head and Shoulders

user1486669405 · 02/06/2017 08:45

I had my hair coloured yesterday. I thought it looked nice in the salon, if s bit dark.

Now I am home, i hate it. Far too dark. The salon is far away and I also said I liked it at the time, so would rather not return, if it can be avoided.

Google says Head and Shoulders can lighten hair dye. Does anyone know if it is true? Does it work on permanent hair colour? I also have hair extensions, which is why I didn't but colour b4. I am scared the extensions might be taken back to colour before the before, if that makes sense!!

Is there a window of time that I need to wash with Head and Shoulders within fade the colour or would it work anytime?

Ugh! Hair is almost black instead of brown, looks so aging against my very white, 45 year old skin, on the plus side hair is very shiny and soft.

Yes it removes the dye, so should lighten it, might take a while though, how annoying for you Flowers

By a while do you mean over a few weeks or should I just wash and wash?

Vosene is slightly better than head and shoulders at stripping some of the dye off in my experience but yes either of used for a while may take the extensions back to the colour they were before being dyed

Head and shoulders/most antidandruff shampoos, baby shampoo and washing up liquid will all help fade coloured hair, I'm not sure how it will effect the hair extensions as it tends to dry out hair.
You could also just wash it with normal shampoo quite a few times each time you wash your hair, before using conditioner to keep it soft. This will also help fade the colour quicker

StupidSlimyGit · 02/06/2017 08:55

Oh and over a few washes don't just wash and wash continually on the same day, those shampoos actually strip a lot of the good oils from your head not just the grease etc, so better to do it slightly more gradually and keep your hair/scalp in good condition.

You could always explain how you feel to the salon, I'm very non confrontational but I've phoned a salon and explained I wasn't happy with the colour and they were great at correcting it. And they didn't make me feel like I was being awkward or demanding. They usually value repeat custom and would rather keep you happy than lose you! I only say that because you've got the extensions so it's probably better to get it sorted properly xx

It's partly because it is an hour's drive, then potentially hours and hours in the salon to put right.

I don't really have the time, however if the h&s doesn't work I would consider going back.

I was wondering if dying my eyebrows darker would make the whole thing better or if that just makes no sense.

Vosene is your friend. Have a heavy duty conditioner to hand as it will dry your hair out terribly.

Please, please don't buy Colour B4 or anything else that claims to remove hair dye. Awful products.

thisismee · 02/06/2017 11:18

Baby shampoo is really good at lifting the colour by a few shades. Wash it few times in one go and use a good heavy conditioner afterwards.
Anti dandruff will do similar but will/can dry your scalp out making it itchy ect.

Vitamin C is great at removing colour. Use the high strength ones, crush up and mix with shampoo. Apply to your towel dried hair, cover with cling film and leave for an hour.

user1486669405 · 02/06/2017 11:38

I read about vitamin c but worried it would be too damaging to the extensions as it is an acid.

When people are suggesting vosene, is that because it is better at fading the colour or because it is less damaging to hair?

I just tried using Head and Shoulders on a strip of hair over the sink. The water looked darker on rinsing but after drying it looks the same as the rest of my hair.

A friend has just said it is nice and makes me look younger but his 3 year old daughter said she didn't like it.

My husband said he likes it but is quite a change. I don't know if I just need to give it a chance as I hate change. I'm worried that when I dry it myself I will end up with too dark and frizzy dry hair, whereas it is straight, shiny and glossy st the moment due to professional blow dry.

This is a terrible thing to be moaning about. I'm from Manchester. I feel a it ridiculous being bothered about it in light of recent events. Sorry!!

This has happened to me before and head & shoulders does help. If you wash it everyday and maybe leave it in 5 mins at a time it should speed things up. Realistically I think you need to just give it a couple of weeks but it will fade.

Colour b4 made me a colour I have never been in my life.

user1486669405 · 02/06/2017 11:45

I defo won't get colourb4. I can't risk my extensions changing to a colour totally different to my own hair, if nothing else!

In my experience, Vosene is more effective at lifting colour. Therefore is also harsher on hair.

user1486669405 · 02/06/2017 13:13

Thanks. I've just washed it with h&s and it has very very slightly toned down. Will buy vosene next.

Thank god I bought the salon conditioning masque!
