Summer shoes for 20 month girl

Bought some Clarks open toe sandals for 20 month old DD (did the same for my boys at a similar age). But today a colleague told me you shouldn't put young kids in open toe shoes. Should I take them back? What do girls wear in summer if not sandals? Someone recommended Doodle but I can't get them here (outside UK). Is it madness to keep her in the sandals? FWIW she's a good walker (walking at 12 months) but can't run yet...

Personally I think your colleague is spouting absolute nonsense. My dd1 was in open toed sandals at the same age, she had some birkenstock style red sandals from Clarks (they had a strap across the toes and a ankle strap) and she was fine walking in them. I think open toed but supportive sandals are fine so no flip flops or strappy sandals, but open toed is fine!
Doodles are great as they are machine washable but my dd does get hot feet in them so not great for really hot days.

Thanks! Her creche said she was fine walking in them. And I've got some closed toe ones too. I just thought that when it's 30oC outside she'd be better in sandals. They're like the ones you describe - closed heel, strap at ankle and toes - so I shall stop worrying Smile

Closed heel and adjustable toes and ankles are fine! Your colleague is talking rot. You wouldn't want her feet sliding everywhere but if well supported there's no issue.
