wallpaper as a feature

what do you think of using wallpaper as a feature? a panel of say this stuff? on just a section of wall, such as above a fireplace, or do you think it will date very quickly?

It's vair nice

we wanted a similar effect and bought a couple of metres of Chinese brocade fabric and stretched it across plyboard and actually used it to block up an awkward window but it did the job. And it's temporary so you can ditch it when it does date

AitchYouBerk · 18/03/2007 12:22

that is beautiful wallpaper. nowadays i'd be worried that it would date if it weren't so gorgeous, but in a way i think that's more visually interesting than just some block geometric so less dateable, iykwim? not sure about just above a fireplace, though, unless it's recessed. i think with these feature walls where people get it wrong is in choosing the colour of the other three walls tbh.

haet wallpaper meself
btua mate has one black wall of type of indian curry hosue style in her monochromatic kithcen diner
looks poncey but good

warthog · 18/03/2007 12:29

gaudy?

yes, i agree about the colour of the walls. it's a very light, airy room so was thinking quite pale colours on the walls, with the blue wallpaper.

it's a pain stripping wallpaper though and was worried that if i do get it wrong, it's an expensive mistake. i think its a few hundred pounds

If you really like it do it.
If it dates you can always change it in the years to come.
Everthing dates eventually.
I think they look beautiful btw.

sunnywong · 18/03/2007 12:31

gaudy

or is that bloke behind Motown?

warthog · 18/03/2007 12:31

ponce

AitchYouBerk · 18/03/2007 12:33

the blue one is my favourite but i think getting a good tonal match for it will be tricky.

yeah. what colours would you put with it? not keen on a pale blue as it's too cold. was thinking warm-clotted-cream-white colour perhaps, not too yellow, not too pink, cunningly echoed in the flowers.

OP posts:
warthog · 18/03/2007 12:37

in chinese print mm?

OP posts:
CODalmighty · 18/03/2007 12:38

poncetastic clotted cream

warthog · 18/03/2007 12:40

ok, i guess i have to accept i'm a ponce. although just looked that up in the dictionary and it appears i'm a man living off a prostitute's earnings.

warthog · 18/03/2007 12:41

sw - making it into a picture might not be such a bad idea... but it would be farquing huge.

AitchYouBerk · 18/03/2007 12:42

i really don't know. are you doing the whole wall or just a panel?

MellowMa · 18/03/2007 12:43

hehe well they might be diamond earings...

thinking just a panel. we have a fireplace in the middle of one wall with book cases either side. was thinking just the bit about the fireplace. do you think it's too contrived?

mm - sounds very cath kidston. i dream of having matching ironing boards, clothes peg bags and then wonder if i'm a stepford wife and make a g&t instead.
