I have psoriasis all up both arms, have elbows of death and my right leg looks burned, knees and ankles are no go areas, plus i major lesions on both feet. basically i need a sheet over my head with holes for eyes and arms, maybe one for the gob so i can still scoff my hobnobs.

Ive felt really down today because it just feels unhideable in this weather - so. I feel dirty! Scabby! Ugly! Contagious!!

Please help me. My Main problem is FOOTWEAR.
I need: Footwear which will go with the inevitable skinny jeans, maxi skirt combo - but I really dont like trainers v much - are there any alternatives? I just cannot have the middle of my foot on show. loafters and mary janes do not cover the scales of horror...They are the size of a shampoo bottle base, just to give you a workable S&B context!!

Can one "DON" a sheer shirt this year? I have a faded old denim number for scale disguise, but it is now 6 years old.....I live in that and my trusty denim jacket, and I always proclaim that IM "one of those bloody people who's always cold".

I live and die in Dorothy Perkins cotton cardigans, they're lightweight enough for summer and loads of colours so they go with everything.

SouthChina I'm on 20,000 iu a day, but I use a spray form as I found it works lots better than the tablets. You can get it on amazon. Will also be ordering some probiotics as well now!

Really lovely messages to read here, it's nice to know that people don't think it as hideous as I feel it is. Still can't quite bring myself to get it out though. London THANK YOU for that, thought it was completely off the cards. I have tons in the medicine cabinet, will pop a bit on my worst bits for some relief!

Agree with everyone. You
have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Wear what you feel comfortable in, and the sun might help a bit. You sound like a lovely person, feel beautiful, you are not your skin.

Ginkypig · 27/05/2017 16:18

My advice which your totally free to ignore if you want is wear what you want! There is nothing wrong with your skin. The sun and air are good for the condition. I know it's more complicated than that, I'm not trying to be glib Blush

All I mean is you have no reason to be embarrassed or feel bad about your skin, if someone says anything or stares it's because they are a dick not because your skin is horrible!

My dp's always gets a bit better in the summer esp the scalp, behind the ear and eyelid area. The patch on his leg never see the light and it does what it wants as does the psoriasis under his nails

I developed guttate psoriasis a decade or so ago after a bout of strep throat. Bumper vitamin D supplements and knocking the fags on the head cleared it for me. Sympathies to all suffering, it's a horrible condition to have.

Londonbum · 27/05/2017 17:04

Squoosh if you don't mind me asking, what was the bumper vitamin D dose? And how long did it take to go...?

SouthChinaMorningPost · 27/05/2017 18:15

The thing is, guys, even with a rock solid sense of self like I have, you do get tired of the looks and the stares, and fuck it, I just dont want to wander around Tescos looking like I've got leprosy.

I really apreciate every post on this thread, I do feel very lonely battling with this. Im in a house of boys, and nobody really thinks anything of my bad skin, but at the same time,, nobody understands why I'm flapping about it.

These Blowfish 'Granola' sandals look pretty but the criss cross effect of the straps would disguise and unevenness on the skin of your feet pretty well. I have two pairs and they are comfy and go with everything and come in loads of colours. Google 'Blowfish Granola' and you can get pairs for anything from £25 upwards depending on colour.

Ps I don't have psoriasis but I do have eczema (including on my face and eyelids) and sometime my skin looks terrible so I understand a bit :)

herecomesthsun · 27/05/2017 18:27

I am thinking that it is nice to have a choice. I totally agree that you should be able to wear vest tops and shorts if you feel like it, especially as exposure to sun will benefit the psoriasis. Your comfort and health are what matters.

However, it might be pleasant also to have the option of an outfit that comfortably and elegantly conceals the psoriasis on a day when you yourself feel that is what you would prefer, for any reason.

Bravas · 27/05/2017 18:30

You have my sympathies, I don't suffer from it but my dh has 80% coverage. I wish he would wear shorts and tshirts and ignore any looks but he can't do it. So sad for him that he hasn't swam for 20 years.

He is currently using Ensilar as an alternative to dovobet, much easier to apply but we had to really fight the doctor for it, as its expensive. Might be worth asking for it, its a foam spray.

Anyway back to your question about clothes, I love harem style trousers, loose and comfortable, vest top and a kimono jacket. Cool, fashionable and gives good coverage. There's loads of pretty kimonos about in summery colours and patterns, they look good over maxi dresses and skirts too.

I wish you well and hope it eases off soon.

Bravas · 27/05/2017 18:44

Would something like this but with lighter trousers work? I think it looks very elegant.

I got tested for loads. I have allergies to nuts and shellfish but this time they patch tested for chemicals as it was mainly on my face, hands, feet, elbows etc.

It came out with the chemical I listed and also the chemicals found in shellac and gels for nails. Since I eliminated the chemical it's been fine! (That said it's hayfever season so today I look like I got beaten with the ugly stick) Grin

Point is I was misdiagnosed. Yes I have birch apple syndrome which I knew and the other food allergies but this one was related to chemicals x

Londonbum Sainsburys have light weight edge to edge cardigans. From memory cream, navy blue and khaki. There may be others but they are the ones I came across.

SouthChinaMorningPost · 08/06/2017 20:32

Thanks so much everyone, I haven't had any wifi til now....I ended up doing the maxi skirt thing. My skin is raw, can't even wear trousers.
