Skin care for/following epilation

After reading loads of threads on here I bit the bullet and bought and epilator today. I had shaved my legs on Sunday so the stubble was short and I am pleased with the results if not the pain when I went over my shins. I did no prep as I was excited to try it out and just slathered moisturiser on after. I have lots of red dots on my legs (plucked chicken look Blush) but had expected that and hope that will ease in time as my skin gets used to it? The one I bought is a wet/dry one so I wasn't sure if doing it in the shower or bath would lessen that?

Anyway - I really want this to work and to avoid ingrown hairs so would appreciate any top tips. The pain element I am not fussed about as much - will put up with doing it a more painful way of the results are better! TIA!

I don't do anything just epliate.
I do get some ingrowing hairs but nothing that is a problem, probably would be solved by exfoliating in the shower regularly.

Anyway, point of my post, the red dots when I first started were awful, I don't get anything now.

Yes, your skin does get used to it in time but you'll still have the plucked chicken look for up to 12 hours after. Sorry!

The best advice I can give is, time your treatment away from your period (so not on or before), exfoliate A LOT. Use a soothing oil afterwards (with antibac properties). Do it after you've tanned (fake) otherwise your pores wont close in time and will absorb the tan resulting in brown folicle dots.

Its worth it when you get into a routine but Ive been doing it for 20 years and my hair growth hasnt become less or finer than it was back then. I'd have laser but I'm blonde haired so doomed Grin

Brilliant. Thanks, am reassured by your posts! Good shout on using a lotion with antibacterial properties. Hadn't actually realised you got such a thing Confused Is there one you would recommend? I am guilty of not exfoliating or moisturising ever regularly so am hoping this may spur me in to mend my ways! Going to try after a shower next time and see if makes any odds. Can't see me using the "wet" option much to be honest unless I decide to be really hard and try more...well...sensitive areas Blush Tempted by the facial attachment but not brave enough to risk it!

I use my eplitor on my underarms and legs in the shower. The pores should be more open as it were during a warm, not hot shower, so it seems less painful.
I dont moisturise until the next day as I tend to use the eplitator at night before bed, it does get less painful over time and it is worth using on your face, again at night, although I haven't used mine on top lip yet!
Keep on with it, it was a life changer for me

Already I am pleased with it. I have quite coarse dark hair so shaving is proving really time consuming and I always seem to be rushing in the shower so it's not the best time for me. I had planned to do it before bed in the hope redness would die down overnight! May brave armpits in shower tomorrow...maybe...

I would also be interested to know about an antibac lotion - I epilate and it is so much easier now - however I still can't do my thighs or bikini line with it - the pain has never died down Grin

I've grown some impressive leg hair, ready for epilation. I use a natural cream, like shea butter or coconut oil. And a salt exfoliator afterwards, in the shower, to stop in-grown hairs.
