To Birkenstock or not to Birkenstock?

I owned a pair many a few years ago at uni and recall them being super comfy. Considering another pair now.

Are they still accepted or will I be wearing the foot equivalent of the M&S pink dress?

Try TK Maxx - they often have Birkenstocks in

AteRiri · 23/05/2017 21:41

Don't Birks get smelly?

RecherchedeTemps · 23/05/2017 21:42

I wear the Thong ones - it's called Gizeh, and I now have 3 or 4 pairs to match the main colours I wear in the summer. I walked all over Europe in some last summer - so comfy and practical.

Only1scoop · 23/05/2017 21:43

Love my Madrids have them in the nubuck.
So comfy

dddddddddd · 23/05/2017 21:46

Oh I love my Birkies!! Got four pairs to alternate this summer!Grin

LottieDoubtie · 23/05/2017 21:49

FWIW, I think the anti-birk brigade tend to think of them as jesus sandals - the type of shoes worn by your aging hippy drama teacher. Not that I have a problem with aging-hippy-teacher types. But you know what I mean.

Blush I was coming on to say I love mine and wear them loads and who wouldn't like them? Then read this description of myself Blush Blush ah well, still like 'em Grin

notapizzaeater · 23/05/2017 21:51

They do fleece lined ones ?

user1473602935 · 23/05/2017 21:56

Not a fan

Think they make you look smelly, wide footed and crusty

Turneeps · 24/05/2017 06:41

Gizeh and Mayari styles look really cool, comfy and much more fashionable that the single or double strap ones in my opinion.
Wear with stylish clothes and confidence!!
Wear with a wolf fleece and ill fitting jeans-no no no!!!

SparklesandBangs · 24/05/2017 06:54

I've gone back to mine after a few years break, tried fitflops last year but they made my knees and back ache badly.

This year I have a swollen ankle so being adjustable they are perfect, I also have havianas but they are not good for walking in so I have some Go Walks

I am not fashionable

chloechloe · 24/05/2017 07:44

I was pondering buying a pair yesterday after seeing my neighbour sporting a black pair which looked lovely on her tanned feet. However, like my neighbour, I was planning to wear them just to potter round the garden and put the bins out Smile. At a push they could be worn to buy a pint of milk from the corner shop! Sorry.

MrsLogicFromViz · 24/05/2017 09:34

I have been wearing them every summer since 2008ish and wouldn't be without them now. I own about 20 pairs in various colours and styles.

They're comfy, they don't cost the earth and at a size 42, they fit me perfectly. Huzzah.Biscuit

I love my birkies (have several pairs) as they're really comfortable. I have all kinds of back and feet issues. Last year I bought some sexi flip flops from crocs. They are amazing!!! And dare I say it, more stylish than the birkies. I'm wearing them today actually!

iseenodust · 24/05/2017 10:32

I love the comfort of them. I am fatally drawn to the coloured/patterned ones and only get on with the Arizona style as cannot abide toe pegs so only wear with trousers in public. Grin

sheeeshh · 24/05/2017 11:21

I would definitely wear them with a decent outfit; no wolf fleeces here! Grin I'm thinking black skinnies and a tee or denim shorts with a vest.

I need to sort my feet and legs out though. Dear god, they're awful.

I have the Gizahs -oiled black leather -and I absolutely love them. They go with everything. I think if you sort of own their crustiness you can almost pass them off as cool Wink

For most people they are an incredibly supportive footwear option and it's hard to argue with that. Seeing lots of Hollywood folk wear 'em too makes it seem better.

sheeeshh · 24/05/2017 12:12

I've done it!

Ordered these ones:

I've worn them for years, but I'm Saltwatering for a change this year, and they're the comfiest sandals I've ever worn.

dotandstripe · 24/05/2017 15:17

I've been wearing them for many summers now. They are comfortable and definitely better for my feet than some thin soled fashion sandals.

I like the Gizeh and Mayari styles in particular, and also have some Arizonas in black suede.
