Choosing between face and body - in your 30s/40s

I look knackered, but then I work full time, and have two DCs - 8 and 4 and am mid 40s.
However, I think putting on a few lbs recently (going from 9.5 stone to 10 stone - and am 5ft 8inch) has maybe taken the worst off my tired look. I do exercise, running and yoga, but i think the extra weight might be helping me look more youthful. Most of the weight has gravitated towards my hips and bum but appears to have found its way onto my face... Has anyone else found this? I don't want to weigh too much more as I have PCOS .

No I'm the opposite - I find extra weight makes my face look puffy and saggy and I look less tired if I'm lighter.

Boobs on the other hand are much better with some extra padding!

Maybe you weren't at your best weight previously? I think everyone has an ideal weight. If you're happy with a bit more weight and are still healthy then I'd be pleased! If you aren't happy or are overweight (like me) then obviously that's not good.

I have an ideal weight. I am over it now and I look a bit jowly tbh Sad. I have been under it too and looked hard faced and angle-y.

In my mid 30s, I lost a lot of weight and was a size 8, I looked ok in the body but my face looked old, even though naturally I have a round, chubby face. I noticed wrinkles forming around my mouth and was shocked how old I looked when I caught a glimpse in the car mirror in daylight!

I am now 47 and a size 14 so am more chubby in the body than I would like but my face looks a lot better and I do look younger.

I have chosen face over body Grin

Body over face and then get the face 'seen to' with Botox and more importantly, fillers and RF.

I'd stop running too as, when you get older, it tends to increase the sagging due to gravity. Try weights/HIT/Tennis instead.

I think a few pounds overweight (maybe 10-20 pounds maximum over the highest end of ideal weight) looks youthful but more than that is ageing.

I'd like to think I'm choosing both. I'm heavier than in my 20's, but I don't look much older (at 37) and my boobs are bigger! Win win. :P

I also think there is a mid ground. I put weight on my face very quickly and it doesn't look good. Weight can be very aging indeed. And that's at either end of the spectrum, too thin. or too fat. A healthy mid point really is the answer.

Seriously though I have only noticed that with myself, my face suffers when i dont sleep well and suffer stress.

my body weight doesnt seem to come into it.

I must say though hanging from the ceiling for several hours every day like a bat has helped me to stave off wrinkles;)

I think men do worry about this. The first time I ever heard someone complain about losing weight and looking older as a result, it was a sleb on that program Celebrity Fit Club! I think it was Jonathan Ross's brother.

I like being a bit heavier than I am now but when I put on weight my jawline vanishes and I end up with a faceneck ☹

I prefer to have a wrinkly face with a chin.

I don't think it's that simple. Some people's face don't look older when they lose weight, but some do. The most noticeable ones are when someone loses a lot of weight. Being a healthy weight for your height is always going to look more youthful. Statistically, it's better health-wise to be a bit porky, though.

I've found that when I'm in shape, slim and toned I only look tired/haggard if my diet isn't great. So long as my diet is good and not full of sugar and rubbish, I drink plenty of green tea, my skincare regime is good and I have been taking my omega 3 supplements I look and feel miles better than when I'm carrying a bit of extra weight.
For me its difficult to get my clothes to hang nicely and look right when I'm carrying extra weight - plus I wear makeup so can easily make my face look quite a lot better, its not as easy to hide the extra pounds and even half a stone extra seems to make a big negative difference to me.

Hmm tiredness makes me look older, what I'm saying is that because I'm not as skinny as I usually am - I'm more slim so I can get away with it a bit more.
I'm not sure swapping running for HIT is a good idea. I do high intensity training and it's a lot harder on the body that a gentle run. I think iyvengar yoga plus spinning/cycling - which don't involve so much jumping around - are better for me. But you still need to tone your tum and bum!!! Long runs, where I don't go all out, mean I get fresh air too. But I've also been drinking a lot more water. Alcohol can really age me - when Im tired.
