I'm getting my hair dyed tomorrow and I'm nervous!

I've dyed my own hair with home dye for years. After the breakdown of my marriage and finally picking myself back up I feel like a change. I decided I wanted to go back to my natural colour and then have blond ends - balayage or ombré or whatever it's called.

I've had strand tests done and because of the current redy/browny colour on my hair they'll need to go darker than my natural colour to cover it. They think stripping the colour out would damage my hair too much and I also had a reaction to one hair dye so they think I'd likely react to whatever they use to strip the colour out. So it'll be a brown on the top and blond at the ends. She said she'll leave some stands brown throughout the whole length to break it up.

I'm quite nervous. What if it all goes horribly wrong and I end up with various shades of red? Or if I get a huge block of blond around the bottom and it looks ridiculous?

The first image is my current colour and the other two are something like what I'm hoping for.

I'll be back with the after photo tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed!

It's gorgeous! I'm very tempted to grow my hair a bit and get something like that done!

It looks gorgeous! Glad your happy with it

Oh that is stunning!

Thanks all. I'm worried the colour difference is a bit stark and the blonde is a bit strawy. I need to get some decent products to keep the blonde healthy as I know it could look dry very easily. Any suggestions welcome!

It looks lovely! I had ombré for a couple of years but went back to my natural colour all over for my wedding last year. Been tempted to revisit ombré again. Can't make my mind up.

Provoke silver shampoo is great for toning the blonde. I put it on damp hair once a week for about 20 mins and it keeps the yellow tones away.

I just had similar done a couple of weeks ago, took 6 hours for mine. I love it! Mine was dyed red before so also had to dye a darker brown before lightening the ends. She didn't go too light on mine this time to protect the hair and also prevent it going to yellow/brassy from the previous red. I'll go back in a few weeks to have another toner applied then in a month or so I can go again and have more blonde in.

Yours looks great!

Also second the silvertone/purple shampoo. It really works. Though this time my stylist said I shouldn't need to use it for a month or two.

Absolutely beautiful OP!

NotQuiteWithItAtAll · 21/05/2017 16:37

That does look lovely!

I'll get some of that shampoo. What would it do to the darker colour if I used it all over? I don't mind if it lightens the brown as it's darker than I would have had if it hadn't been red underneath. In fact I'd quite like to lighten the brown over time.

It won't do anything to the brown really, just helps keep a nice even tone. The brown should gradually lighten up over time anyway, that's what usually happens with mine. Or in a few months you could go back and have more blonde run through the top so it appears lighter overall.
