Am I right in thinking they are not a brand but a style or have I got that wrong? I'm with whoever posted the other day about needing some 'spring' shoes, I usually just roast in my boots for a while then freeze in my sandals and then it's summer. I love the mary jane style with the strap across but I need them to be quite chunky because I don't have matchstick legs so I don't want my legs to look like two carrots tapering down to a teeny point! Can anyone help me?!

These are nice (also in gold )

Too flat, don't want to knock the children to the ground with reverberations from my thudding

Mary Janes are very, very unflattering to non-skinny legs because they visually shorten them. I also think they are frumpy. Sorry.

Dances

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 15/03/2007 17:59

How do they visually shorten them aloha?

Oh, I am a bit frumpy and proud btw (rather that than mutton)

The strap means your eye stops there. Shoes that finish lower down the foot elongate your leg, as do boots. bar shoes can make thick calves look really bad IMO.

They are all a bit spinster geography teacher or Brown Owl for my taste! - the Jones pair are best I think. But hey, my last pair of shoes are gold glitter ballet pumps!

I would look POO in ballet shoes, I need a chunkier shoe to balance out my legs (I'm a 12/14 btw) So what would you recommend Aloha?

I have a pair of MJ's that are Earth Shoes. A bit more chunky, very comfortable.

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 15/03/2007 18:14

jabberwocky - LINK please!

I am useless on shoes. I only like boots, then sandals or ballet pumps! Sorry... am not v helpful here...

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 15/03/2007 18:17

So you come and crush my fragile hopes and dreams of the perfect spring shoe then p*ss off aloha. shocking.

I have absolutely freezing feet from March onwards if it is any consolation?

Gobbledigook · 15/03/2007 18:21

this is my idea of a gorgeous pair of 'Mary Jane' shoes - heeled and not what you are looking for but...how nice?!

jabberwocky · 15/03/2007 18:22

Still looking for link. They are similar to these .

danceswithaSPRINGinherstep · 15/03/2007 18:24

They're ok gobbledigook but when you factor in the 'looking like a complete tw*t with unbending knees whilst walking in high heels' sort of cancels out the effect....

I have some silver Betty Jackson shoes a bit like that! Only with a t-bar. DD calls them 'fairy shoes'.

jabberwocky · 15/03/2007 18:27

Here's another pair and these are cute ones from Birkenstock.

Earthymama · 15/03/2007 18:27

Take no notice and go for the DM Mary Janes. I've got Stephanie and some red ones, I've had them for about 4 years and I love them.

I've also got Earth shoes, I'm wearing them now but they are best with jeans not a skirt.

janeite · 15/03/2007 18:49

Well I'm with Cod - LOVE the DM ballet shoes. The Mary Janes are really cute but I've got very skinny ankles, so they'd look daft on me. If they are as comfortable and enduring as DM boots, they will last you forever too.
