Upper arms, when to cover?

I'm 50. My shoulders look ok, my upper arms seem average, bit of a bingo wing, definitely not toned and muscular.
I keep reading that people want to cover their arms and I'm concerned that I've had them uncovered but shouldn't.
What's the deciding factors?

When you want to. If it's a bit cold.
Think that's about it Smile

MazDazzle · 16/05/2017 09:52

I've spent most of my life hiding my arms. It's just silly! If anything, hiding them draws attention to them, especially those ridiculous cropped cardigans!

Dare to bare!

clapyourhandsandwhistle · 16/05/2017 11:21

Thing is, I don't really notice people's arms so I was wondering what it is they're embarrassed to show.

I did it when my arms started looking shit, probably mid-late 50s. I've always covered them in hot weather anyway as I burn easily and hate the feel of cooking flesh. But no rules, my ex boss - well into her 60s - looked great in a sleeveless shift,as does Brigitte Trogneux at 64. If you've not noticed anything, why bother?

Agree that shrugs and little cover ups just draw the eye even more.

MrsGotobed · 16/05/2017 12:54

I'm also 50 and often wear sleeveless tops and dresses. I would say my arms are OK, slim and fairly toned.

TBH I never really notice peoples arms. I would say there are other parts of people I'm more likely to notice in a "that should be covered" type of way eg. people with their arses hanging out of the top of trousers (builders bum style) or out the bottom of hot pants in totally inappropriate places.

KatharinaRosalie · 16/05/2017 14:46

Do you feel self-concious if your arms are uncovered? If yes, you could consider covering, if that would make you feel better. If no, you're fine as you are.

MargotLovedTom1 · 16/05/2017 14:50

I'm obviously shallow as a puddle but I think the deciding factors are if the arms are big and beefy Biffa Bacon's mutha types; flabby or have pimply spotty skin.

SkaterGrrrrl · 16/05/2017 14:55

Do men cover up their arms at 50?

No. Carry on.

thedevilinablackdress · 16/05/2017 15:18

What Okite said. Though I am in favour of covered armpits in the workplace regardless of age, gender, whatever.

Bambambini · 16/05/2017 15:21

When it's cold, in a church and when you're self conscious about them.

Bambambini · 16/05/2017 15:22

"Do men cover up their arms at 50?"

Men rarely show their upper arms, especially shoulders.

specialsubject · 16/05/2017 16:45

When it is cold or you are somewhere that stones will be thrown if you don't.

habibihabibi · 16/05/2017 16:54

I am an arm coverer and so is my DH.
He wears polo shirts minimum .
Men in vests Shock look dodgy to me .

Bangsheadontable · 16/05/2017 16:55

When you want to?!?

buggerthebotox · 16/05/2017 16:59

Tricky! I'm baring mine for the first time in a while. I feel more confident atm as I've lost a bit of weight and I'm doing weights. Halo.

I guess it's how you feel? I don't think there's a particular rule.

BaronessBomburst · 16/05/2017 17:03

I was once waving at a small child and got told to stop by his uncle as apparently my arms were flapping.
I told him to fuck off.
The small child was out of earshot. Wink

clapyourhandsandwhistle · 16/05/2017 17:16

I've been over thinking this too much.
I've never been a vest wearer, unless for sports, but I was thinking more about evening dresses.
Strapless are out due to my none existent chest. I was wondering about sleeveless boat neck or cap sleeves.
It seems that if I don't care no one else will, unless there is a stone throwing or snow risk.

Go the whole hog!
Wear strapless if you want to.
Doesn't stop the girls on the catwalk and they're so flat-chested I'm not even sure they've got nipples in there.

BossyBitch · 16/05/2017 19:03

Don't see why you should. My mum doesn't- she's pushing 60 and definitely not toned.

I cover my upper arms for work, but that's because I had the stupid idea of getting a rather opinionated tattoo while young and unaware that I was about to embark on a corporate career. Everyone else at the office goes shoulder free and we're quite conservative in our work look.
