How old is too old? Hair styling

I'm 45 next month and have long hair.

Mum says it's too old to have long hair, dd thinks it's ok.

Currently rotten weather where I am meaning if it's not tied up in some fashion it's getting really tangled. Is 44 too old for plait/s?

I also like the revival of cotton wide jersey hair bands which I wore a lot in the 90's.

Is it still true that if you wore a fashion the first time you can't wear it a second?

I'd also quite like to dye it a non-natural colour at some point, again dd says I'm too old for that.

Interested in opinions then will do what I bloody like Grin

Don't listen to your Mum. If you like it, wear it long! I get moaned at all the time by my mum to cut my hair and I'm mid 50's. It's NOT that long but it feels better having hair that moves around my head (more forgiving) than the pixi I grew out.

Gah! I can't stand this kind of ageism, which is always directed at women. (I don't mean about hair Grin but about are you too old to wear x or do y)

If you like your hair long, and you think it suits you, then keep it long.

If you're not sure, go and talk to a hairdresser and see what they think, and what they might suggest for you.

But please, please, please don't just cut it off because someone else thinks you're too old!

Haven't been to a hairdresser in nearly 2 years, cut it myself.

Long and straight with middle parting. Dark blonde with streaks of grey and auburn naturally. I normally dye it to cover the grey but hurt my back 18 months ago so can't sit comfortably in hairdresser chairs, can't use the sinks at all!

Oh and it's very fine, so when short it's like a flipping swimming cap!

I never understood why long hair was considered for the young by some people (although only heard it on mn!). I think it's that realistically many older women cut their hair because it's easier to deal with rather than inappropriate so it's become a thing.

I quite like the look of multi coloured hair but feel that's a bit of a young persons game myself

my mother is 80 soon, she has a killer bob, with purple streaks.

I'd like some colour in my hair, but she got there first.

I'm 43 and have a graduated but short bob, which is bleached blonde with pink streaks. I recently got my nose pierced and am getting my first tattoo over the summer.

I do not give a shit what anyone thinks of me anymore. I spent so much time when younger worrying about what other people (looks at horrifically judgemental Mother) thought that I was miserable.

DD is 15 and is forever telling me how awesome her friends think I am so my attitude is clearly giving me more self confidence.

Do what you like, dress how you like, have your hair how you like. We get one go round on the planet - be happy with it.
