Hair appliances to use in America

We're going to Florida in September. I've heard many stories about standard UK hair appliances not working in America, and understand I need to take dual voltage items with me.

Many travel hairdryers are dual voltage, so no problem there - but I'd also like to find dual voltage straighteners (full size, not mini) and a dual voltage hot air styler - I don't mind whether or not the brush rotates.

DH suggested I buy these items when we arrive in Florida, but I'd rather arrive prepared. I've also thought about buying from Amazon USA, but I expect shipping to the uk could be expensive (assuming it's available)?

So if anyone can suggest dual voltage straighteners and a hot air styler, I would be very grateful!

My cloud nine straighteners have an international voltage so are safe to use at home & abroad. 100 to 240v, self adjusting.

I always use my own hair dryer and ghds in florida. Just take an adaptor.

Trying to remember if there was any difference power, but i dont remember there being.

I mean power as in how power the hairdryer was or how hot the straightner got. Rather than the wattage.

When I was in Colorado my hairdryer only worked at half power!

To be quite honest I've been to USA a total of probably 20 times over the years, used hairdryer fine there, same with straighteners (don't use them anymore). Sometimes the voltage can be a problem but generally not.

Just take a UK to USA adapter plug and you should be fine.

If your items are not dual voltage, the hot air styler won't work and straighteners will get barely warm. I've tried. Many items are dual voltage though, that's why they work fine.

If you want to be prepared, I would order an US version from Amazon to the hotel where you're staying.

My straighteners (elderly ghds) don't work there. Newer ones do apparently.

I purchased an american second hand hairdryer and curling tong on ebay to take to america with me. I still have them somewhere - need to put them back on! I'm glad I did because the hairdryer in the hotel was rubbish!

I have GHD straighteners (bought in the U.K., I live in the US) that work perfectly. I have a plug adaptor but that's it.
Most hotels have hair dryers so I really wouldn't bother buying one to bring with you.

I recently been and took my babyliss big hair and quite frankly it was pants. It hardly rotated.

You can see on your current appliances whether they will work. They'll either be marked 240V or there'll be a range - you'd need it to say "110V-240V". I can't remember whether it's marked on the plug or the appliance itself.

Posted too soon. My newer GHDs are fine (older ones weren't).

I bought a hairdryer and a Big Hair when I was out there (only it isn't called a Big Hair, can't remember what the name was). It seemed extravagant (about $100) but we visit there every year so over 4/5 years it has worked out a lot cheaper than getting a salon blow dry once every trip. How I really want a US voltage Dyson.....but that really would be extravzgant!!

I bought straighteners theee and they were rubbish, since then i take dual voltage ones i got here for 30 quid. I did buy an american hairdryer which i took back eack year.

Watching with interest! Has anyone ever found a dual voltage hot air styler, as I'll be needing one soon for a USA trip?
