Hairdressers (esp Colourists) advice please

Adult DD decided to have her hair dyed bright pink. She researched, went to a few salons for consultations and decided on one she felt seemed most competent.

She paid a lot of money and the result was stunning.

One wash later and it was looking washed out, slightly patchy and peachy-pink.

After 2 washes, it's still pink, but a pale candy floss over most of the hair and even more patchy.

She's reluctant to go back as they were careful to say that they couldn't guarantee results and she's not sure what they would/could do.

I genuinely believe I could have done this job for around a tenner with home dye kits.

Any thoughts?

Did she have her hair bleached first? Bleach opens up the hair shaft to remove all colour from the hair and it never really seals back. This is why bleached hair can be dry or look damaged with "roughed" up cuticles. (These are not scientific terms!)
Due to this, any dye or toner will take well because the hair is porous but rapidly wash out.

Your dd can re apply a pink tone at home. I'd recommend Colorista Washout pink. She can use that frequently without damaging the hair.
Also shampoos formulated for coloured hair, no sls, will help maintain the colour.

Yes, her hair was bleached - it's naturally a golden brown.

Thanks for your thoughts

If a treatment like olaplex was used though it should prevent fading. In any case it shouldn't fade that drastically from two washes unless she's rinsing with bleach!!

Maybe go back to the salon and say she's not happy and ask them what she can/should be doing. Wether they could guarantee it or not (rubbish IMO) it's still their nane being advertised.

Pink will inevitably fade. I hear Special Effects is good for lasting power - might be worth a shot. Also, when she re-colours it, I'd recommend:

  1. Shower with a shower cap on, and remove only briefly to wash the hair in cold water with colour protect shampoo;

  2. Mix some semi-permanent pink dye into conditioner and use it to top up the dye once per week (I do this with Manic Panic);

  3. Avoid hairspray etc as it can strip colour.

She could try directions hair dye.
I used this when I was a pink haired teen...
