Please help me fine something cool to wear in Florida that covers upper arms?

I am a size 14 with a good waist and no tummy but awful flabby/wrinkly upper arms and veiny /wrinkly thighs/legs so shorts are out.

I am thinking just below the knee capri jeans/jeggings with some sort of top that covers upper arms and maybe v or scoop neck but not too low. I saw a nice crepe/silk type material camisole/vest in Sainsburys but didnt have it in my size but something like that with a cover up/cardigan which doesn't look as if I am trying to cover up my arms LOL.

I also have Matalan longline vests which would need something to cover up but maybe too hot but if I got up my courage and didn't care what I looked like then maybe I could remove the cardigan/top.

Probably just one top would be better than the vest/cardi combo though? Cool and floaty maybe but my waist is my best/only good bit!

I am in my 60's but feel like I am 18 so don't want to look like a granny (even though I am)!

Am I asking the impossible?

Bump.....

I have tried on a couple of mesh tops with cami underneath which would seem ideal for keeping cool except they both had fluted sleeves and looked a bit "young" for me.

I would stick to cotton and linen materials, you really won't be comfy if you are too hot.

What about this M&S linen shirt
and this lightweight fat face cotton top (not worn off the shoulder)?

Itscurtainsforyou · 10/05/2017 15:40

I usually have a look at laredoute.co.uk for linen tshirts. Past ones have last really well.

I'm a size bigger than you and I'm Florida I get seriously boiling so don't wear capris or sleeves of any sort - just a bit of extra material makes you feel loads worse! Practically everyone whatever shape or size wears shorts and vest tops. Strappy floaty sundresses are good too. I really wouldn't worry about veins or unsightly skin, you see all sorts out there, practicality over glamour Grin

Thank you all for the ideas, I will look into them.

I really think I need a elbow length sleeve cardi as a cover up as well any links please?

It isn't just the heat it is the humidity you need to take into account. May time saw me in a vest and shorts, outside, at 10pm. You need to look at the weather for the time of year you are going.

Have you been to Florida before? It really is full of people of all shapes and sizes in shorts and vests. Some very large people too. Personally I couldn't care less what I wear to keep cool not do I judge other people on their appearance in any way.

Have a look at this historical weather page that allows you to choose your day from previous years.

Looking at 10th May over the last couple of years shows that even in the middle of the night it doesn't drop below 20c.

I saw this web site on here - not bought them yet but seem like s good cover up idea. But maybe too hot on the humid south.

I'd go for a linen or cotton shirt as a cover up, left open over vest or t-shirt

Itscurtainsforyou · 10/05/2017 22:32

Op I'm bigger than you and also due a hit holiday Smile

I'm packing 3-4 pairs of palazzo pants, a pair of denim just-above-knee shorts and 7 linen/cotton mix t-shirts/vest tops. I have a lightweight hoodie (gym wear, but ideal for the job) and a lightweight cardigan (a couple of years old unfortunately or I'd post a link). Then comfy sandals ( I love heavenly feet) and Skechers go walk).

I'm keeping everything in colours that can mix and match.

Itscurtainsforyou · 10/05/2017 22:32

Hot holiday!

Bejazzled · 10/05/2017 22:46

What about something loose and floaty like this cotton top?
here

LuxeLush · 10/05/2017 23:15

How about a lightweight kimono, they look good over a cami top?

Debenhams have some as do House of Fraser

BenjaminLinus · 10/05/2017 23:22

I have wingz as above - they're fab at what they do, but you really won't want the extra layers in Florida unless you have a couple of cooler days if you're there in winter.

Cottons are better than silk in the heat, and stay away from man made fibres.

Whyarethebestnamestaken · 11/05/2017 11:34

Thank you, I have heard of wingz but think that may look a bit like I am trying to cover up (which I am).

I ordered a couple of tops from H & M with shortish sleeves, not quite elbow length which should be good. What is their sizing like?

OP posts:
mousymary · 11/05/2017 16:34

H&M sizing is small.

Bear in mind that air conditioning in the US is ferocious so you will need a cardigan for indoors.

Unicorn81 · 11/05/2017 19:57

Can i just say nobody will care about your arms, everyone is sweaty and hot and honestly nobody looks at anyone else like 'what is she wearing'. Florida is super relaxed so just go for shorts, knee length maybe and some light t shirts or loose tops with maybe something like this

www.yoursclothing.co.uk/white-crochet-knit-cardigan-with-short-sleeves-p
www.yoursclothing.co.uk/black-popcorn-crochet-cropped-shrug-p

You dont want anything heavy. Ive got flabby arms but i still just wore sleeveless tops as its too hot to care
Enjoy!

WideHorizon · 11/05/2017 20:14

It's just so, so hot and humid that you won't want to wear anything extra at all!

Literally every person wears shorts, and unless you are in Miami, most people will be far from svelte either.
