Maternity clothes ideas: Help me disguise pregnancy?

I'm only 7w and a bit but tummy fat bump is already beginning to show. I'd like to hide the pregnancy for as long as possible, and don't mind people just thinking I've gotten very fat. (So not necessarily looking for very flattering clothes.)

I've tried going up a size or two in normal clothes, but the shoulders are way too big and it makes me look like a slob. I've made a couple of very loose dresses, but they'll do for wearing at home - my sewing skills aren't really good enough for outside wear.

Any ideas please?

Maybe try some A line dreses/skirts that sit fairly high on your waist and skim over your tummy.
Other than that, layering if you can. (Obviously not great if the weather picks up!) Jackets can be good too. Hopefully that helps!
Congratulations!!

Kimono short sleeve type cardigan things that are loose and drapey? Or Zara has some empire waist shirts and blouses. And H&M had some peasant style blouses that looked quite loose.

I think at 7 weeks you probably just feel bloated and that makes you feel more paranoid that people can see if that makes sense? So I'm sure you'll be able to hide it for a wee bit yet.

Hmm, the problem here is the weather is warming up. I've just managed to keep mine under wraps for 24 weeks but my winter coat helped 5th dc lots of unwanted opinions hence keeping it quiet. That being said if it gets really warm floaty tops & waterfall cardigans will help, leggings are useful too. I agree with Girl it's likely bloat at 7 weeks & while you think you're huge it's not actually that noticeable to anyone else.

Loose belted dresses in patterned fabrics are your friend...
You can pull the top half down over the belt to disguise the bump even more

This one is quite short but gives you an idea of the sort of general style

Thanks ladies! The Mango dress looks good and will look into the high street tops. It is only bloat at this stage, but I'm also only 2.5 mo post partum (we sadly had a loss at term) so a) have no abs to speak of, and b) feeling very raw and superstitious about telling anyone. Was fine when I was at home, but back to work now and want to avoid any well meaning questions!

I found the Whistles Lola dress good for this stage.

WomblingThree · 10/05/2017 08:46

Silky, patterned shell tops that skim rather than cling, long drapey lightweight scarf and a structured jacket left undone was my best cover up.

Sorry for your loss and congratulations on your new baby.

Bisquick · 10/05/2017 09:27

Oh Whistles Lola is lovely, and they seem to have a few other nice dresses as well! Thanks stars. And yes, I'm thinking of adopting scarves and a light jacket too Wombling, it helps that my office is always freezing no matter what the weather! And thank you for your wishes.

Off to do some online shopping now!

Or for a different look, how about a pair of relaxed jersey trousers in black/navy (e.g. this with a slightly floatier top and something like a light waterfall cardi?

I know it doesn't sound the most fashionable, but if you choose a nice top, you would look good (and not pregnant).

And huge congratulations.

HeyCat · 10/05/2017 09:38

Peplum tops might work. Also empire line dresses. And loose floaty scarves (the translucent type) are surprisingly cool even in hot weather.

I'm sorry for your loss, how terrible. Flowers

Intransige · 10/05/2017 09:38

I went with long floaty scarves and jackets. It worked really well, I concealed both pregnancies until past 20 weeks. People were amusingly surprised when I switched to maternity clothes - "where did that come from?" Grin

I don't have any advice on this but just want to say congratulations on you're new pregnancy. I also recently lost my little girl at full term and I remember you posted on my thread at the time. I'm so happy for you 💐

Bisquick · 10/05/2017 16:59

Thank you for your wishes knowler HeyCat. And Intransige this is exactly what I'd like to go for. Although I've spent most of the afternoon hiding in the ladies throwing up, so not sure how long it'll last.

And thank you Steph. Hope you are healing okay given the circumstances, and that better things are around the corner for all of us. [hugs]
