New havianas - do I need to wear them in?

Dp bought me a pair of havianas recently as I'm heavily pregnant and can't reach my feet anymore.

I'm getting small blisters between my toes where the toe post is rubbing.

Is this something that will stop once I wear them in or my feet get used to them?

I haven't worn toe post flip flops or sandals since I was a teenager

I can't bear flip flops for the exact reason you cite above! It just makes me more miserable than usual haha! So I have single strap Birkenstocks which are my favourite footwear of all time! Would be interested to know if I could persuade myself to like flip flops?!

TinselTwins · 07/05/2017 15:14

havianas aren't comfy, they take as much foot abuse to break-in as grockle shop flip flops

Reefs are super comfy though

MadisonAvenue · 07/05/2017 15:14

I'll watch this with interest for replies as I have the same problem, and most Summery footwear seems to have toe posts.

CherylVole · 07/05/2017 15:27

No

I find cheap Primark flip flops fine. Treated myself to havaianas last year and they were super uncomfortable. I felt utterly let down....

CateGory8 · 07/05/2017 16:30

I live in flip flops in the summer but I can't wear havianas at all. I've had 2 pairs and gave both away, guess I hadn't learnt the lesson the first time around. I suggest Birkenstocks and also second Primark flip flops.

mowgeli · 07/05/2017 16:34

Yes they need breaking in. I have several pairs and they always blister me when they are new and feel hard on the sole, flat and rigid. With a few wears they start to break in. My feet were so swollen after I had my son that they were the only thing I could bare to put on

Scentofwater · 07/05/2017 16:39

You need foot lube!

That stuff is amazing!

I can't bear Havaianas- they are too thick between the toes. Saltrock do really comfy flip flops.

winchesterfan · 07/05/2017 16:43

I find haviianas the most comfortable flip flops I own

MargotLovedTom1 · 07/05/2017 16:45

I've never had any problem with them, and find them much more comfortable than el cheapo flip flops.

Dulcimena · 07/05/2017 17:20

Yes, it always takes a few days for the skin to toughen up. I live in them every summer but I still allow a few days of adjusting every spring. No need to suffer but yes do be patient. The skin will harden.

maitaimojito · 07/05/2017 17:29

Yes, I find they take a few wears before they stop rubbing.

Once they're worn in they are really comfy and I can walk miles in them.

EmmaWoodlouse · 07/05/2017 18:29

I got some of these from TKMaxx recently as they had a colour I really liked. No problem around the toes, but they rub at the other end of the straps (at the side of my feet) a lot more than primark or similar ones do - I think the rubber is harder! I'm hoping I will break them in eventually but I wouldn't dare do the half-hour walk to the beach in them yet.

PotahtoPotayto · 07/05/2017 18:43

Ipanemas are a lot more comfortable than Havaianas IMO.

Pengweng · 07/05/2017 20:22

I second ipanemas as the best flip flops I've worn.
I bought a pair of haviannas and they were so uncomfy i never wore them. Waste of bloody money.

ChippyMinton · 07/05/2017 20:27

Rub your finger around the post, and if there are rough bits go at them with an emery board.

User48627 · 07/05/2017 21:42

Havianas are so uncomfortable, I wore mine for about 50 yards. I've tried wearing them round the house to get used to them but four years down the line they still hurt, gutted I wasted so much money on shit flip flops!

Look for flip flops that have a thin strip of fabric between the toes, I had these when I was pregnant and lived in them, I could walk a few miles no problems and they're so cheap you can get them in a variety of colours.

Someone stole my havianas from the pool gate last holiday. I was livid and skulked around the gate for 2 whole days until they appeared and then I stole them back.

The new ones felt wrong. They need to be worn in for a while but then they are amazing :)

A1Sharon · 07/05/2017 22:12

Oh my! I am amazed people find havianas uncomfortable. I find them the most comfortable footwear ever.
I have lots of pairs and wear them about 9 months of the year. Hate the really cold months when I can't wear them.
The quality has dipped though.
