Top upper lip is a bit hairy and prickly!! I shave a bit at the edges and trim with tiny nail scissors!! Not too sure that is great....any suggestions please? Wax,thread..? And I'd like a facial haven't dared go due to upper lip prickles! But would like to start... very late 40's , so mature skin!! Normal skin... bit dry but I've a decent complexion... don't fancy going to some posh salon and feeling an idiot as I'm not sure what to ask for...so out of my comfort zone...help please x Thanks

The shaving is probably why it's prickly - the ends of the hairs end up blunt, rather than tapered!

If it's bothering you and is coarse, I'd say whip it off, unless your skin is sensitive. I couldn't if I wanted to because I'd end up with a crop of cold sores.

One thing I have noticed, though, is that a completely bare upper lip can look a bit odd and shiny because its's unnaturally smooth, while everyone's face is naturally covered in vellus hair.

If it's just darker than you'd like, try bleaching it.

I pluck mine (I'd probably have a full zapata if I didn't).

Chesterfuckingdraws · 05/05/2017 23:52

Wax it off only takes a few minutes to do and not sore. You can get it threaded but that's much more painful and takes longer. Don't bleach it unless you have very very pale skin, it make it even more noticeable (in my opinion)

I'd stop shaving it. Waxing always gives me small spots so I use a facial hair removal cream and leave it on for less than half the recommended time. So I leave it on for a minute or two - any longer leads to face burn on me.

Have given threading a go but it was fecking painful and gave me spots again. Not much different than waxing only longer and ten times more sore.

Hi another one for facial hair removal cream, very quick, painless and lasts a couple of weeks.

Longdistance · 06/05/2017 19:05

I'm feeling the tash movement.

I get mine threaded, but my face ends up looking like this 😡 Was looking in to laser treatments but can't afford it at the moment. May wax it if not as sore.

Don't shave or trim, it makes it blunt and prickly. I find wax works best, I do it myself using Veet facial strips once a month/every few weeks and I found after using them a few times the hair grew back much much finer. Takes moments to do but you do have to have a little length there to begin with.

I get mine waxed and tweeze in between waxings

ScarlettDarling · 06/05/2017 20:23

You need an epistick, they're brilliant. Look on Amazon or eBay, you'll get one for about £2. They're dead easy to use, but look on YouTube for videos on using them if the instructions aren't clear.

P1nkP0ppy · 06/05/2017 20:29

I use my epilator on mine, it's a bit ouchy sometimes but takes less than a minute. Facial hair removal creams are painful and not particularly effective on me, waxing is fine but expensive at £12 and threading is £15 😳 around here!

silkpyjamasallday · 06/05/2017 21:22

Best thing is to pluck to avoid the shiney look with waxing taking the baby hair off, but using tweezers on individual hairs is time consuming, these things https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00JAEKDTA/ref=pdawwsimsbss364_2/257-8385606-3118309?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M2YRZXFXWKEMHGWMH9SC&dpPl=1&dpID=51-dqbV9kmL make it much easier and quicker.

OlennasWimple · 06/05/2017 21:29

Yy to the epistick

Stings like buggery but works, the pain doesn't last very long at all, and if you decide it isn't for you it's only cost you £2 from Amazon, so no real loss
