screw back earrings

I want another pair. All the ones I can find in UK seem to be some kind of very vintage style with an extra bit of metal from front to back (how does that work when wearing, around the lobe?). My current pair is like a regular push post except the back butterfly screws on.

Just trying to figure out if these ones with the extra metal around the lobe are worth having. Have you any experience? Thanks!

I've got diamond ones from the U.S that have a screw thing . I think it's genius but maybe it's just over a certain value that have them for safety reasons ?

Do you want earrings for pierced ears? The ones in the photo are an old school version of clip on earrings so aren't for pierced ears, they're like little clamps.

If you can't find screw backs- Andralok earrings are similar

ragged · 05/05/2017 21:47

aha! that makes sense, they are screw on style of clip-ons, I get it now, phew.

I want ones for pierced ears that the post screws into the backing rather than push in. So that they stay in my ears. The push in ones always fall out. Those Andralok are interesting, but don't they fall out just as easily as push ins?

I've got a pair of expensive pierced earrings with screw-on backs, but I never wear them as the backs unscrew! I don't find them secure at all.

Try these. They really work.

I had screw-in backs for platinum diamond solitaire earrings, but one of the backs worked its way off. Luckily the earring itself stayed in but I haven't been able to find a replacement back Angry

Are you thinking of the kind they use when doing a new piercing? Like some of these? piercingmania.co.uk/standard-lobe-piercing

Like these (decided to buy these)... you screw on the back rather than just push the post thru the backing. This type of screw on is more common with very expensive earrings. Poor value for me to keep quickly losing £7 pairs, though, I may as well try buying a single £22 pair that will stay in my life for more than a few days.

After more hunting I found a few in UK... just wanted more selection! Need gold or sterling silver. Thanks for helping me recognise the clip ons.

ps Ziggy: I found replacement backs somewhere online when I was looking around today. Keep trying! Probably Ebay or amazon. Look for "screw post" among search terms. Or a quality jeweller should be able to supply.

Hi Ragged - yes, a quality jeweller was able to supply . . . at £80! I looked on eBay as well and there were different sizes/thread options. This thread has motivated me to try harder - will get back on the case Smile

I also use those Lox backs Goody linked to - they're really good. I bought them to use with diamond earrings but now use them with any earrings I wear.

Liiinoo · 06/05/2017 14:30

I bought diamond studs with a screw back and like a PP I found they often unscrewed themselves and when one butterfly was lost it could not be replaced as they are not standard sizes. Eventually I had them reset with standard push on fittings.

tissuesosoft · 06/05/2017 15:33

ragged I find the Andralok ones stay in really well, I was forever losing earrings with just push on butterflies

ragged · 06/05/2017 15:48

I have been wearing (24/7) diamond screw-ins for 7 yrs with no issues. They don't unscrew selves, nothing ever lost. Will be mindful that I may not be so lucky with the next pair, though. I did check them often in first few months. Just now I only spent £22 with delivery, so if the new ones stay in my ears 10 days I have my money back compared to push-ins.

I have some other push-in diamond studs I am reluctant to wear in case they pop off, so should look at lox things for those.

I love "La Pousette" earring backs - so quick and easy to put on/take off, but no chance of losing diamond earrings etc. You just pinch the two little bits to operate the locking mechanism when you want to take them off
