Blonde to dark brunette... What's it like?

I'm one of those unusual people who has stayed naturally light blonde up until my late 30s. It's of course darkened as I've got older but is still a nice, naturally highlighted gold colour.

Think is, I've always loved the look of sleek, VERY dark brown hair. Think Kate Middleton or Ella Woodward. I think it's lovely.

Should I dye mine? I've always wanted to but am too afraid I'd hate it
wimp

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I have skin which tans easily and green eyes. Hair relatively thick. Should I go for it? Please tell all! Grin

I did it and absolutely HATED it. Took me ages to go back to blonde. Dark hair didn't suit my skin tone at all. I looked like a corpse.

Snap! I've also been thinking about doing this lately. I currently have very long highlighted blonde hair, however I'm very bored of it and I'm tempted to go dark brown!

Another one who looked like a corpse. Try a wig to see what the colour does to your skin tone?

I tried it too and also looked had dead. I also felt a bit invisible - not sure why as I think brunettes look really striking usually. Was really hard going back to blonde and wrecked my hair too!

mrtumble Invisible. That's exactly the word I would use to describe how I felt. It was really odd.

I loved it and have stayed brunette. Once I found the right shade it was so flattering and I definitely looked younger.

I tan and have green eyes and look my absolute best with chocolate brown hair. However my base cover is a light mouse brown rather then blonde and I have very naturally dark, heavy brows which I suspect is what makes it work. What Colour are your brows? If fair then I wouldn't do it as your facial features will disappear.
If you do go for it I'd suggest going to a hairdresser as will be able to match to your undertone (I suspect you are warm and therefore need a chocolate or golden brown rather then ash). Be prepared to totally switch up your makeup- you'll need bronzer and potentially a bold lip.
Good luck, let us know what you decide!

I've done it and had loads of compliments. Hairdresser did dark brown with no red in it. It rinsed off my highlights quite fast. I did it mysrkf darker but the second home job with a v dark auburn has taken much better and looks amazing. It's very shiny and doesn't make me look washed out at all. I have tabs easily skin and blue eyes. I love it!

I did it years and years ago and completely agree with the invisible feeling others have mentioned. I couldn't even put my finger on what it was, but I also didn't feel as confident or outgoing as I do when I'm a blonde.
I had to wear loads more makeup too as it completely washed me out.
I'll never be anything but blonde now. Dark just doesn't suit me.
