Why are there no inexpensive eye creams with spf??

Boots have removed the spf from their perfect& protect eye cream and their time delay eyecream

None of the big brands, eg loreal/ ulay have a spf in them... why not?

Begrudge paying £30+ just on eyecream!

I use a soltan face cream SPF 30 all over my face. It doesn't upset my sensitive skin either. I also use the P&P but don't put them on together. I use it as part of my evening routine.
Much as I love the P & P in my opinion a good sunblock is a priority. Prevention is better than cure!

JoyceDivision · 05/05/2017 06:19

Oooh is there a particular one you use? Do you use it on top of or instead of a moisturiser?

Its Soltan Once Face. I use instead of a moisturiser. Its not too heavy and I can use foundation over it without it balling up for want of a better description. I think it was around ten pounds in Boots Smile

thank you!

No moisturiser or eye cream would ever have an SPF high enough to make any difference according to the MN beauty gurus.

I use Biore watery essence 50 - it's fabulous because it isn't like a gloopy suncream (even most of the specially for faces ones are a bit masky) it's a light runny lotion.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 05/05/2017 07:07

OP,

Totally agree: so frustrating that good eye moisturisers often don't have spf, which then means paying ridiculous amounts for 2 separate products. Angry

Possibly it's due to an increase in extra sensitive skin surrounding eyes reacting to the spf ingredients themselves? Or customers complaining they end up also having to buy a non-SPF-containing eye cream solely for night use?
A surprising amount of friends don't bother with everyday eye SPF.

I've got very fair, hypersensitive skin but have found that Clarins UV Plus SPF50 is gentle enough to use even on eyelids.

It comes in stupidly small bottles (30ml), but it lasted me months. The outlay's steep at (IIRC) approx £28ish, but is economical when combined with first applying a reasonably-priced yet decent eye cream (usually the Body Shop Vitamin E one) for the moisturising benefits.

I just add a tiny dab of the Clarins in the morning, and re-apply if necessary later in the day. I've found its non-greasy, silky texture works as a primer, isn't chalky and can even be patted lightly over eye shadow for invisible touch-ups!!

(As someone who once suffered sunburnt eyelids, when I dared lift my sunglasses for all of 5 minutes, I've got seriously high standards with regard to sun protection in that area).

Good luck...I'll be interested to read other posters' recommendations and ideas.

You burnt your eyelids??Shock

So, I could get a nice eye cream, apply then apply a spf cream over the top... I think that's the way I'll go!

I've got the Sunsense daily moisturiser - I think it's spa 50. Nice and thin - a whole face cream though, not a special eye cream (why do you need that?)

JoyceDivision · 05/05/2017 12:11

Er.. I don't know... I assumed facecream was fir face and eye cream was designed for more fragile skin around eye area... but I could be wrong... at mo I am slathering moisturser with 30spf on all over including my eyes...

OP,

Yup...was agony: swollen and red right down to the lash line!
Was wearing hat (and factor 50 on the rest of my face), too, but UVB glare must've reflected off the bright white building/ patio when I had my sunnies raised up.

So to answer your question...
Mornings:
Normal (non-greasy, lightish) eye moisturiser (as mentioned, the Body Shop Vitamin E eye cream's nice; keep mine in fridge for extra cooling effect).
Leave to absorb properly, whilst you're getting on with other stuff.
Gently pat some of the Clarins UV Plus SPF50 all round eye area, incl. lid (and obviously apply your face sunscreen too).
Once invisible, apply any lid make-up if you wear it.

Night-time:
The eye cream alone (and obviously apply your face moisturiser too).

I've tried many hypoallergenic/ supposedly safe for eye area too-type brands of regular, facial sunscreen, and ditto moisturisers. And, unfortunately, my eyes always end up streaming and stinging. Grrr.

Everyone reacts differently, though, so you might be luckier? Smile

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 05/05/2017 12:25

You'd think in 2017, companies would have managed to create a bloody cheapish, sensitive skin-friendly, all-in-one sunscreen for face and eye area, wouldn't you???

Would save us all this hassle!

The eucerin eye cream has spf in it. I think it's spf 30. Let me look for a link.
