Please help me "edit" my wardrobe!

Sorry about the use of the word edit.

Not many months ago I decided to go through my filled to bursting wardrobe and chests of drawers. I got rid of a lot of stuff in a non sentimental manner and vowed I would buy less stuff but of better quality. But I'm not far from being back where I started. How do people (your good selves, mumsnetters) sort out your clothes, good from bad? And shoes need to be culled too. I tend to wear jeans, t-shirts, various thickness of jumpers and have some smarter stuff to for day occasions and evenings out. What criteria do you have? Do you store winter clothes somewhere else? It's driving me mad that I've just not got this sorted!

PS I quite often get birthday etc presents from family that I know I'm unlikely to ever wear. Should I just chuck them?

I look at my wardrobe about once a year and think:

  1. is there anything I haven't worn in the past year? Then

  2. am I going to wear it again/why haven't I worn it - is there a good reason? If I love it but it's not quite right eg length, I put it in my 'take to seamstress' pile. If I don't really love it then I think about ebay or charity shop.

I also usually try things on to see whether actually they do suit me and I should make an effort to wear it more often.

You can re-gift or sell things on eBay if you aren't going to wear gifts (assuming they won't be hurt or realise that you don't wear it)

I also like the Kondo idea of only keeping things which "spark joy".

Thank you!

I don't have many items that "spark joy"
