Anyone else always cold? What do you wear?

I would like to get some nice clothes for a city break soon but I'm always always cold. I'd like to get some superga, skinny jeans, leather(ish) jacket... but I am likely to end up bundled in puffa jacket as usual. Just wondering what everyone else does? Is everyone who looks nice actually freezing?!

I'm always cold and wouldn't touch Superga because the sole is too thin - can you get trainers with a thicker sole? I've seen some quite ones in Geox.
Long sleeved layers under the jacket - there are some really nice long sleeved t shirts in jigsaw, can layer with fine knit merino or linen jumpers maybe?

megletthesecond · 04/05/2017 20:15

I wear Nikes. They have a thicker sole and I wear them with thermal socks.

I'm still in a thermal vest too.

mysteryfairy · 04/05/2017 20:24

I'm always cold... things that help are wearing uggs but some of their leather boots that aren't distinctly uggish so maybe you could llook at shearling line trainers by Ugg or Ash as similar to superga , leather gloves as they can be quite slim and less noticeable than big woolly ones, also not the most stylish but a woolly hat makes a big difference - from hush or some such? I don't think everyone else is freezing though just an unlucky minority. We went to Amsterdam recently. I had loads of layers and was frozen and stiff with the cold. If I held DHs hand he was perfectly warm and couldn't believe how cold I felt.

rainbowgiraffe · 04/05/2017 20:28

I'm always bloody cold. I wear a vest top under my clothes when I'm bitter.

NotReallySureWhatImDoing · 04/05/2017 20:59

I wear thermals. The ones from Uniqlo are really good as they come in3 different levels and do them in all sorts like long sleeve, vests with thin straps, thick straps, short sleeves, crew neck, v neck etc. I also picked up thermal leggings and jogging although you might have missed them as their spring stuff is out.
Regarding footwear either double up on thin socks and I also find leg warmers really help You can disguise them under trousers.

GVmama · 04/05/2017 21:06

I'm the same, I have such lovely clothes in my wardrobe but it's too bloody cold for them 90% of the time!

I went on a city break with friends recently, I took a hat, padded coat and my boots. Friends wore cute outfits and heels. I had the last laugh.

I'd go for warm and as stylish as possible, rather than cold and stylish (ie. No to the leather jacket!!)

thedevilinablackdress · 04/05/2017 21:14

Vest. Always in a vest unless it's 20c+. Likewise socks. Would love to get my ankles out more often but keeping the draughts out always wins. Where are you off to? How cold is it likely to be?

IfNotDuffers · 04/05/2017 21:16

Uniqlo Heattech under everything. Big coat when everyone else is in a jacket.

I know what you mean, though, I saw some group photos recently and everyone else looked stylish and carefree, while I looked like some wrapped up, middle-aged frump. But at least I wasn't miserably freezing, which is definitely worse.

Judydreamsofhorses · 04/05/2017 21:17

Another perpetual cold person here. My best tip is to buy sheepskin insoles for every pair of shoes.

queenofawkward · 04/05/2017 21:22

How about some ankle boots instead of supergas? And a thin black polo neck to add a layer of warmth

junglebookisthebest · 04/05/2017 21:40

Love thin cashmere or merino tops - light to touch but lovely and warm.

bingohandjob · 04/05/2017 21:45

Uniqlo Heattech and merino layers. Heattech is thin enough and available in enough styles to wear under most things.
My feet are always bloody freezing - sheepskin inner soles.

Toffeelatteplease · 04/05/2017 21:49

Primary velvet lined thermal leggings. Then you have the option to wear either ankle or long length boots and a skirt instead of trainers and jeans. You can even wear long John's under them. Always longlohns with jeans.

Yy to double layer socks (at least one pair thermal) and sheepskin insoles. Both awesome

Down packable jackets and gilets can be a great warm layer under leather (and wool) coats. Tog 24 are warmer than uniqlo. You can also pack them away if you don't need them.

Don't just look at down coats. Some alternative insulated coats are just as warm but don't look like you are wrapped in a duvet

WellTidy · 04/05/2017 21:49

I am still in my sheepskin Ugg boots and M&S thermal vests, long sleeve. I wear thermal socks October to April. I find that layering up works well for me. The m and S thermal scoop neck long sleeve vests come in masses of colours and are thin.

CantChoose · 04/05/2017 21:51

I wear uniqlo heat teach. Every single day. Means I can wear more normal outer layers!

SuckingEggs · 04/05/2017 21:56

I wear vest tops to layer quite often. Always have a scarf on and am in socks (sometimes two pairs) if necessary. M&S have some nice long vest tops for £4.50. Nice cotton and they cover my hips.

FritzyMousey · 04/05/2017 22:02

I am always cold too, always wear vest tops under my clothes, don't have to be thermal but do have to fit snug. The worst for me is tops that are low at the back of the neck- lets a chill in, and 3 quarter sleeve anything- absolutely pointless, I went shopping for a slouchy blazer at the weekend and half of them were 3 quarter sleeve, surely if it's cold enough for a blazer you need full length sleeves! I'm liking the insole recs, will have to try those.

Lovelilies · 04/05/2017 22:02

Following with interest as I'm always freezing and am stuck in the same rut of clothing. UGG boots, skinny/normal jeans, vest, long sleeved tshirt, fleece hoody, puffa jacket.
All the bloody time.

owenjonesismyhero · 04/05/2017 22:03

Layers, M&s heatgen tops, long vests, big knickers, wool socks, wrist warmers make a huge difference for me stopping draughts up my sleeves, thermal leggings under jeans when it is very cold, scarves and hats, down gilet.

Etymology23 · 04/05/2017 22:04

M and S Heatgen long sleeve thermals. Real wool/cashmere/merino for jumpers as budget/itchiness allows. Thick-ish long socks under the jeans/or thermals under instead. I'd wear boots not trainers, but my warm-preference is greater than my fashionability preference.

tammytheterminator · 04/05/2017 22:04

Always cold here...

Gore tex boots - I have some lovely non-granny ECCO ones (yes, ECCO I kid you not!), thermal socks and layers. I love H&M vests (have them in loads of colours), long sleeve tight fitting t-shirt type tops and jumpers. I love gloves and scarves.

Much as I would love to be hip and trendy I would far rather be warm and comfortable. I spent most of my childhood and time at university freezing my arse off!

VanillaSugar · 04/05/2017 22:13

Thermals. I rock a superb indoor look of a hot water bottle shoved down the back of my jeans. This warms my bones ready to face the outside.

blueobsessive · 04/05/2017 22:22

Another vote for heat tech from uniqlo. Wearing Asics (which are thick soled) helps a lot; and I wear scarves all year round - people probably think it's a style statement- but really it's to keep warm. On holiday I tend to bring a wooly hat too (unless it is truly tropical). For years I worried about it and tended to dress 'normally' (i.e. Freeze). Now I own the warm look.

ParadiseCity · 05/05/2017 09:04

Thanks for all the suggestions, this is really helpful. I'm going to stock up on uniqlo and try the insoles.

Layers...always some sort of base layer, socks with leather converse (Superga and I sadly don't get along Sad)

Merino jumper and ...a silk scarf. You need a scarf.

With all that you can get away with a rain coat at this time of year.
