Talk to me about semi-permanent hair colour...

I have dark hair with a bit of red in it, and a few greys.

I'm a bit bored, and quite fancy going bright red or blue or something, but can't be doing with bleaching then dyeing and the commitment that is!

I am completely not bothered by my greys, and not particularly looking to cover them.

I used to occasionally use a semi-permenant red dye which brings out the red in my natural colour. If I do that over greying hair is it going to cover it, do nothing, or turn the greys bright pink? (I quite fancy them going bright pink...)

All the stuff online is about how to cover greys which isn't quite what I'm after. Lush always used to say that using their red henna on greying hair would give you a lovely red sheen and pink highlights but I'm not sure I can be doing with the faff of henna.

Just vaguely bumping this as I wander past... though it's hardly earth-shattering stuff.

Probably turn them bright pink - or maybe bright orange, depending on the shade of red!

Do you have grey strands or are you grey more around your scalp and temples? It would look quite good with reddish streaks but if you have lots of grey roots that would look a bit odd.

Superdrug do little wash in colours called Shaders and Toners. They're cheap and wash out after a few washes so might be worth a try.

Try the new L'oreal colorista, they're washable and normally wash out after a week or so but you can get an idea of how your hair will take to a dye!
Mines currently a rose gold colour after being bright pink on Monday Grin

It's more strands than patches, if that makes sense - and not roots, it's all through.

Will poke around in superdrug and have a play!

Right, Ive got the colorista in vivid burgundy. The red one looked like it would be quite orangey, but I'm hoping this one will be more pink on the grey bits.

I'm excited to use it, but it's been ages since I used anything on my hair so I'm going to be sensible and do allergy and strand tests...

Although I also bought a lovely scarlet jacket in Oxfam yesterday, so there may be a clashing issue....

In case you ever think of using the Lush henna ... it's a gorgeous colour but doesn't cover grey at all. I tried 3 lots and my grey still shone through.

Good luck! My only advice would be make sure you wipe any drips off your skin and ears while you wait for it to develop. You don't want burgundy ears.

And colour clashing is in at the moment. Grin
