Help find the holy grail of skinny black trousers!!

I need a pair of black skinny trousers with an amount of stretch, that hold me in, look smart and make me slimmer Grin wearing to work with longline tops and heels and only skinny looks 'right'.

I've tried ponte trousers but they're too much like leggings and I am now on a pair of Next trousers that were labelled 'smart' but the stitching down the front isn't doing it for me.

I'm also an 18 so not the easiest thing to find. I've been through the entire Next catalogue, Simply Be, Very, Matalan, Tesco and Sainsbos and still no joy Confused

So french connection have some great skinnies with a gold side zip. I think they are the street twill skinnies. I know they go up to 16 but I'm a 12 and the 10's were fine.

Ticks all your boxes 75 quid but worth every penny

[http://bananarepublic.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=57999&vid=1&pid=000183602H114-17810 banana republic sloan pants] they have them in size 18 and looks like they're currently reduced. I wear these to work a lot.

Zara? I have bought an awful lot of Zara skinny black trousers in my time - they don't last all that long but they're cheapish. They're not painfully skinny, IYSWIM and look quite smart.

BoysRule · 02/05/2017 20:03

I have fat face begging and they're really good.

BBCK · 02/05/2017 20:03

Try H&M. I love their trousers because their really stretchy but don't look it

BoysRule · 02/05/2017 20:03

Clearly that's jeggings - darn autocorrect.

DrudgeJedd · 02/05/2017 20:15

Gap bi-stretch skinny ankle are my favourite work trousers, comfy & keep their shape. I have four pairs in different colours & patterns.

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 02/05/2017 21:35

Gap bi-stretch in 2 colours here!
Boden Richmonds are similar but do the baggy knee thing if you sit too long.

Glitteryfrog · 02/05/2017 22:36

Gap. Skinny cropped ones.
I only wear gap trousers

Shnorbitz · 02/05/2017 22:49

Aha, so Gap appears to be the front runner, thank you, I will take a look at those and other suggestions! Not been in a Gap store for donkeys years.

Gap bi stretch, the best by far IMO.

Shnorbitz · 02/05/2017 22:51

Ouch @snowgirl, love the banana republic ones but the price is a killer. Are they more of a skinny fit than they look?

I have a pair of M&S super skinnies, size 20 that my size 10 colleague admired and has now purchased in every colour, they Aldo have stay new technology and are still black. I've had them since Christmas

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/05/2017 06:44

I'm a 16 and I struggled with Gap to be honest, ditto Uniqlo, although I'm short, which doesn't help.

Best black jeans imo are River Island Amelie. They stay black, they are thick, hold you in and have good stretch and don't go baggy at the knees. Mid rise but feel higher. I love them.

BagelDog · 03/05/2017 06:47

Can I just ask all the gap bi-stretch fans how they size up? Gap jeans seem to come up big so I size down, are these the same? And I am in a similar trouser hunt OP so sympathies!

WhereAreWeNow · 03/05/2017 11:15

I second the Gap bi-stretch trousers.

DrudgeJedd · 03/05/2017 12:07

Bagel I'm a size 10 and have the patterned bi-strech in an 8 but the plain black & other colours in 10. No idea why Gap can't make consistent sizes in same style trousers.

hollieberrie · 03/05/2017 17:20

I'm a 10 but take an 8 in the bi stretch

WhooooAmI24601 · 03/05/2017 17:38

Gap's bi-stretch are incredible. I have 4 colours now (bought khaki ones a couple of weeks ago) and they all wash beautifully, don't fade, don't go baggy and hold in my post-easter-girth.

cheapskatemum · 03/05/2017 18:24

I second AuditAngel. I bought M&S Super Skinnies just after Christmas and wear & wash them at least once a week. They are still black, still stretchy and have kept their shape. You may find you need a size smaller as I am usually a size 12, but size 10 fit me like a glove. They cost £19.99, which I think is good value.

ShottaSherrif · 03/05/2017 18:30

Someone recommended the Cos black ankle length trousers on here a while back. I bought them recently and they are really good so far. Comfortable, stretchy but not too tight. No bagginess at the knee (my pet hate) and high enough waist to keep a smallish belly nicely tucked in! Haven't washed them yet but would definitely recommend them on the basis of the first wear.

Shnorbitz · 03/05/2017 20:31

I'm really struggling to find anything on M&S except skinny jeans, I need trousers as they are for work. Does anyone have a link???

I have a code for 40% off gap today if anyone wants to stock up on their bi stretch trousers - SMILEGAP

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 03/05/2017 20:43

The M & S are their jeggings I think, though they stopped calling them that. They are very very skinny. I am a size 10 in M&S but feel like a tub in them tbh. Too tightly skinny.
I'd say the Gap are a generous true to size.
In honour of this thread I tried my Boden Richmonds and my Gap and there is no comparison. The Boden finish at a strange place, have a weird open flick thing at the ankle and bunch at the knees.
