Deodorant and breast cancer link?

I was reading an article yesterday that showed the links between deodorant and breast cancer and it having something to do with the aluminium in them.

So I looked this morning and all my deodorant spray and roll on or stick types have it. But body spray doesn't.

Are there any scientists, oncologists, deodorant makers or anyone more 'in the know' to know if this it something I/we should be avoiding? It's a bit scary!

I linked to a list, gillybeanz at 11:16.25 Smile

Those will all be deodorants, not antiperspirants, I suspect.

Really interesting posts, I am not scientific and I suppose some of the websites/papers are a bit confusing and I don't actually know if they are proving something or not. Which is why you people 'in the know' are great at explaining it a bit more simply.
Trills I love that metaphor of collecting tokens, that makes so much sense now.

I looked in Tesco yesterday at all the deodorants and couldn't find one without aluminium, so it's not something I could even do 'just in case' anyway, it would have to be a conscious decision to order it on amazon at over £10 a stick, thanks Pacificdogwood for the link. Which I don't think I will after your comments.

It sounds like scaremongering, but it works, I am terrified (that's isn't an exaggeration) of getting cancer, lost both nans and mum to it young. if I read somewhere that something can cause or prevent cancer I become a bit obsessed with reducing or increasing my exposure to it.

Is there a simple formula that you clever lot would say is your best way of not getting it? I know keep alcohol low and cigarettes are a no go. But what about chemicals in the home or things people don't think about. Is there anything that you would avoid that I wouldn't even know to?

I have similar family history OP and it's natural to want to have a sense of control over these things, but I've had to stop myself erring on the safe side and buying into bad science as it could easily become more and more restrictive.
