Mac brushes

Grown up daughter has a birthday coming. I've asked her for suggestions for presents, she's suggested a Mac make up brush or brushes. That's fine, but I'm a bit agog at the prices for them. I'm happy to buy her a brush and another Mac item however. Just thought I'd ask you S&B folks if you know of any decent online store that might offer these at any kind of a discount?
Mac is offering 10 % off for new customers, so I shall do that if no other ideas. Many thanks.

MAC generally don't do regular discounts, and if you go to discount type third party websites then you could end up with fakes.

The sets they put out at Christmas often get reduced but I found the quality isn't as good as the full size standard brushes.

I would go with the 10% through MAC or Debenhams sometimes have 15 or 20% off beauty days, depending on when you need it and if you can wait.

Thanks, yeah I figured that about the possibility of fakes. Decided against buying on ebay for that reason.
Will check Debenhams just in case they've got a sale

Do you know anyone in America who you could send them to and they could send them on to you? That's what I did.

No unfortunately not. Time is not on my side either.
Are they cheaper in the states? Might be a good tip for someone else.

I wouldn't buy Mac from a third-party website, there are so many fake Mac products, especially brushes.

Instead of Mac, how about Zoeva? They are very similar quality and you can get sets for not much more than the price of one Mac brush. BeautyBay sell them.

seoulsurvivor · 02/05/2017 04:45

Zachary if she asked for Mac brushes, she won't be that happy with Zoeva.

ZacharyQuack · 02/05/2017 07:21

She might not be. Then again she might be delighted with a set of rose gold brushes instead of one or two Mac brushes.

I've got a lot of makeup brushes. Mac are OK but Zoeva are comparable quality and a lot less expensive.

I've always found MAC brushes to be pretty poor tbh

thethoughtfox · 02/05/2017 10:14

Get on Youtube. All the make up artists like Nikkietutorials and others use some Morphe brushes: they are a quarter of the price. You can get the online.

She asked for Mac brushes, not opinions on other brushes. A birthday preset is meant to be a splurge that the receiver couldn't or wouldn't ordinarily buy herself. OP a good makeup brush will last for years if you take care of it. If your DD is into makeup and has determined that she wants Mac brushes, they are definitely worth the investment. I've a few Mac brushes I've been using for literally a decade.

User556 · 08/05/2017 10:19

King just so you know,MAC changed the factory a while ago so the brushes are not what they used to be.

OP I generally get what is asked but in this case I would ask your daughter to look at YouTube and blogs for Zoeva as not only will you get more for your money or she will get more brushes but they are better in some cases and there is more choice.
If for example your budget was £100 you would get 5 brushes from MAC but a whole set from Zoeva. A lot of them are exactly the same shape and size too

Botanicbaby · 08/05/2017 11:00

didn't know Mac had changed manufacturer for the brushes as came on here to say that I echo what King says, I bought a Mac foundation brush in 2007 and it is bloody excellent quality, still going strong although I don't use it daily now I have switched to BareMinerals foundation weekdays and use their brush.

I baulked at the price of the Mac brush at the time as it cost a lot more than the foundation but it has been worth its weight in gold. I have cheaper brushes that haven't lasted and don't give such a nice finish - so it was worth the investment.
