So what is the point of having "light reflecting particles" in one's foundation

doesn't it just make you look a bit weird and ghosty and shiny in the cold light of day? Perhaps its only supposed to be worn for evening dos?

I'm dithering about the next big event in my life namely the buying of a new foundation (its a quiet week, here). I need something what with my open pores, flushed cheeks and generally slightly greasy skin - such a catch, I am - but I can't stand looking like I'm caked in makeup.

What would you do?

TIA.

Does it make you invisible do you think

suejonez · 12/03/2007 22:43

they are meant to blind people looking at you so they can;t see your wrinkles

suejonez · 12/03/2007 22:44

or just cary a really bright torch and shine it in the eyes of anyone who looks at you.

cece · 12/03/2007 22:45

LOL

GRUMPYGIRL · 12/03/2007 22:45

Does it stop you getting run over when you are pissed and laying on the road (like having cats eyes for your skin)

KristinaM · 12/03/2007 22:45

i would buy tinted moisturiser . but then I knwo nothing about style......

AbominableSnowMum · 12/03/2007 22:46

they really work.

sassari · 12/03/2007 22:55

foundation is just one of those things you have to try millions of types of till you find one you love.
snore-worthy, but there you are.
fwiw - the light-reflecting thing can be a useful way to make dry crepey skin seem dewy and youthful. in certain lights, like

you really do have to just keep trying product after product till you find something perfect for you.

what about going to a dept store and trawling round the make-up couters talking to the make-up laydeez and see what they can turn up for you? is about as appealing as pulling teeth, but hey, worth it f you find something great.

twoisenoughmum · 12/03/2007 22:56

yes but what do they actually do ASM?

'dewy and youthful'

now you have my attention.

Perhaps the foundation I bought for my wedding should be upgraded....

GRUMPYGIRL · 12/03/2007 23:01

Oh noooo, maybe its just me but the makeup laydeez are scarey!

sassari · 12/03/2007 23:33

without wanting to offend any such make-up laydeez who are also mn'ers perhaps... yes i would agree that said laydeez are perhaps of another universe/reality to me... and im reasonably feminine in lots of ways. well, i wear make up anyway. now and then

AbominableSnowMum · 12/03/2007 23:33

I don't know what they do exactly - but the ones I have tried (and I only wear makeup intermittently) really work. They kinda do make you glow a little bit (not shiny though), and give a really even, hide all ills thing, without looking like you have plastered on loads and loads.

sassari · 12/03/2007 23:34

oh yes cece, if makeup does not make me look dewy and youthful, why i simply wont have it i say!

Caligula · 12/03/2007 23:48

The light in those shops would be no good for you to test anyway - you'd have to go outside in real light to see if they looked the same

I once had a makeover in one of those places and I thought I looked fab. Then I came outside and caught a glimpse of myself in a shop mirror and was horrified. I seemed ot be a jumble of orange and blue and pink and absolutely caked and hideous.

janeite · 13/03/2007 18:53

I've got the No 7 one and quite like it but as I'm very pale I do wonder if it makes my skin look a bit TOO "healthy" even though I bought the palest shade. The coverage is good and it lasts just as well as the (non-light-reflecting) Prescriptives one I had before.

bakedpotato · 15/03/2007 12:38

Revlon Skinlights, cheap as chips.
Skin just glows a bit, but unobtrusively, and the coverage is nice and light. I aim for 'no-makeup makeup' too.
If you have open pores, get a primer, it sort of smoothes everything out. Mac does a great one.
