Hi, I am looking and coveting a Mulberry Bayswater (oxblood). My love affair began with a very effective sales woman. Last year before going on Maternity leave I got a promotion. As a treat I'm promised myself a nice leather work bag to celebrate my promotion. Not quite a laptop bag but more a document bag as it's mainly documents I carry out and about. I've looked very hard and I can't find what I'm looking exactly.. then while in Mulberry, the sales assistant said "a lot of women use the Bayswater for work". So, my first question to the Bayswater users.. is this true?!!!! If so, then I'm getting two bags for one!! I would so love one.

As a second question- is it a good weekend bag.. for outings, trips to the shops etc..

Thanks!!

If you want a luxury bag for the nappies, check out Jem + Bea. They do gorgeous ones...

The Baywater is a very popular work bag - after a couple of hours in London you will lose count ! A few years ago there was one that incorporated a slot for a Mac .

Are you thinking of the new design or the original one as they are quite different ?

It's not the most comfortable bag to carry particularly when loaded as it doesn't usually fit on the shoulder with a coat , and the rolled handles can dig in when carried in the crook of the arm . However it is an iconic bag and I love mine .

I agree with speckled. I had wanted a Bayswater for ages and treated myself ages ago. Whilst it is a good size it is awkward to carry (you have to hold it in the crook of your arm) and mine is quite heavy, so I don't end up using mine as much as I thought. I'm not sure it's the most practical 'out and about with small children' bag either. I would go for a cross body bag as then you have your hands free. I don't regret buying mine, but they have gone up in price a lot since I got mine and not sure I would get it now. But it is a lovely bag.

I have a Bayswater for work but not practical with a wriggly toddler and a baby. I ended up with a Louis Vuitton Neverfull as my baby bag and now use it for everything as is isn't heavy but holds endless amounts of crap BUT it will never take the place of my Bayswater as my first handbag love!

Hi Russet, Thank u. They are fab. However, I have a changing bag - - from my first baby. It's not a lux one but a nice one that was a gift. I don't know if it's me but I didn't use a changing as much as I thought I would.

Speckled Hen, It's a new model 2016 one I had my eye on.

How loaded does it have to be to become uncomfortable? Is it the sort of bag that needs to be quite full to hold its structure?
I met a lovely lady in the store, another customer, who saw me admire it and told me she bought a felt organiser on Amazon.

Do you use your one every day including weekend use..?

Have you ever carried a file or laptop?

I would love one to cheer me up for my return to work..

Thanks all. The never full is fab. The navy blue type one is amazing.. I love the finish the leather has.. do you use it for work? Serious bag envy!!
How old is it.. does it keep like the Bayswater?
I was looking at the new Bayswater which has a shoulder strap too.. don't know its long enough to go cross body... I'll have to try in store. I think though the weight is giving me pause for thought..

I use a Bayswater for work, I have an oak and an oxblood one. It can hold files and is the perfect size for my old style MacBook Pro. They are quite heavy even when empty though. Ive heard a lot of people say they struggle to carry them but I wear mine on my shoulder no problem, even with a coat on. I'm not sure why others struggle to, I'm not slim at all so it isn't that. I must just have a Bayswater shaped shoulder!
I don't really use mine for weekends but I think that's because to me it is my work bag - I'd have to clear all the crap out of it for a start.

I have two in the original style (oak croc print and black) and adore them as work bags. I lug A4 papers round in mine and sometimes a laptop. It is a very heavy bag though empty, so with the laptop in it I have to carry it in my hand rather than on the shoulder or in the crook of my arm.

I wouldn't recommend it as a weekend bag when out with the kids. It can be worn on the shoulder but because of the relatively short drop of the handles you need two hands to put it on your shoulder, otherwise it's difficult to get your elbow through (difficult to explain - best to try in shop!). You also need two hands to open it really so not very practical if you need one hand free for the children.

I do love it though, but only as a work bag.

The ones made of thicker leather keep their shape well even if empty.

Thank you all. I'm going to try instore tomorrow. I think I have to accept that's it's not multipurpose-so no point using that as an excuse to justify purchase! I have other bags for weekend use anyway. Typically to date I have used the same bag for both and changed them every 12-18 months. Thank you all for your advice.. I think the oxblood it is.....!

How did you get on Catherine ?

Catherine0317 · 06/05/2017 07:51

Hi, thanks for asking. I didn't want to be bothering you all further! I loved it!! It fits on my shoulder (I had a light parka on though), fits standard A4 paper and the oxblood is definitely my favourite colour. Its circa Eur1200 and there is no difference really between Rep of Ire v UK website price. Also, I agree it's not a weekend bag for a potentially leaky bottle!!! The last thing I need to check is to make sure my laptop fits - my recollection is that it's a 15 inch HP. However, just in case it's larger - I need to wait until I return to work and to pop up with it to make sure it fits. If so, it's a done deal.. Then maybe a Lily for my 40th in two years time!!!!
Thanks to you all again

TSSDNCOP · 06/05/2017 12:02

I have a Maple, I find the Bayswater too soft.

TSSDNCOP · 06/05/2017 12:04

And an Anthony when I'm out with the kids.

AgathaMystery · 06/05/2017 17:11

I use mine for work all the time! And I used it as a nappy bag sometimes too.

I have a samorga liner in mine in a bright colour so I can see everything. I absolutely love my bays. It is battered now but I think they look better with wear.
