Best supermarket foundation?

ApplePizza · 29/04/2017 12:54

Money is tight, so now I've finished my last foundation, I need to replace it with something a lot cheaper...

I don't know where to start, and I can't afford to make lots of mistakes...

I'm a red head, so my skin is very, very pale and this is often the sticking point. I can get a lot of redness (although not all of the time, so avoid green based correctors as they make me look ill).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been using Laura Mercier/ Bobby Brown pale foundations. (I don't like No. 7 stuff from Boots.)

Thank you

How much is your maximum spend?

ApplePizza · 29/04/2017 12:55

I'm a red hea, but I think my colouring is neutral, if that helps?

Red hair, freckles, but blue eyes, blue veins...

Oh.. I don't know...

Less than £20 definitely. Preferably nearer £10?

Money is very, very tight, but I need foundation (and blusher - but I've got loads of that left) so I don't look tired and ill.

For a lighter coverage I really like Bourjois healthy mix and for a heavier coverage I use Revlon colourstay, not sure how pale these go though Smile

Not from a super market but this very morning I have ordered The Ordinarys foundation. It's about £6 and comes in 21 shades. I have read good things about it.
There are lots of ok drug store foundations but it depends what skin type and coverage you want.

ApplePizza · 29/04/2017 13:03

Probably medium coverage - I don't like to look overly made up, but anything less and I might as well not wear it.

Check out NYX - not sold in supermarkets but Boots, or the NYX online store.

I also have pale skin and am currently
using Rimmel Lasting Finish which I like. It's quite full coverage but lasts well (er...hence the title!)

highinthesky · 29/04/2017 13:08

If money is v tight, try Poundland. They do a make up range which includes liquid foundations for just £1, so you can afford to take a risk!

Maudlinmaud · 29/04/2017 13:11

Gosh foundation drops are nice and the coverage is medium. I also like bourjois healthy mix serum it's a dupe for one of Chanels offerings. Pixiwoo do a great run down of all these budget foundations both on youtube and on their blog. It's quite comprehensive.

CotswoldStrife · 29/04/2017 13:16

Try one of the Rimmel ones, I bought a couple after seeing them recommended elsewhere and was pleasantly surprised.

ApplePizza · 29/04/2017 13:28

Thank you. I have a good place to start. I think Boots might be a better place to try rather than a supermarket.

Again, it is not supermarket but the Barry stuff from Superdrug is good.

I ran out of Bobbi Brown during the week and used some Barry M stuff I had lying around a two people commented on how good my skin looked.

Littlemisssorrow · 29/04/2017 13:30

Don't get Bourjois healthy mix. I'm a red head and the lightest one gave me the tangoed look!

TiddlesUpATree · 29/04/2017 13:30

I love the w7 one. Not supermarket but can get it on Amazon. Around £5 I think.

BarchesterFlowers · 29/04/2017 13:32

Boots no 7, I currently wear Stay Perfect or Intelligent colour foundation. I moved away from more expensive stuff after trying a sample.

There are always offers on - 3 for 2 across the range at the minute.

prettywhiteguitar · 29/04/2017 13:33

What about spreading the cost on qvc ? There are a few offers on where you can do easy pay ?

Zoella swears by Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation. I reckon I'm going to try it after my Mac runs out. Only £8 and zoella always looks nice.

highinthesky · 29/04/2017 14:16

I downgraded to No 7 Stay Perfect from EA, and whilst the colour match sample is fine, I find it very heavy and artificial looking by the end of the day if used neat, however sparingly (think Kim Kardashian fakeness). To counter this, I use just a drop diluted in a lot of No 7 serum!

luckycatclover · 29/04/2017 14:23

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless is one of the best foundations I've ever used and it's like £6. It is a bit drying so if you have any dry areas then moisturise/prime properly before it.

That said, the palest shade is a tiny bit too dark for me, so I'm not sure. I would recommend getting a foundation mixer. I use NYX foundation mixer (black tube, £8), it's just a white cream that you mix with foundation to get it a bit lighter, I use it with Fit Me and it still works just as well.

suze28 · 29/04/2017 15:06

L'oreal true match is a lovely everyday foundation that gives light to medium coverage with decent pale shades.

TheOneWhoKnocks · 29/04/2017 18:04

Revlon Colourstay is amazing - lightest shades are reeeeally pale, coverage can go from quite sheer to full depending on how you apply, and it comes in two finishes (oily/combo version is quite matte, whereas the dry skin version is quite glowy and slightly more sheer). I get it for about £12 and it's better than any of the dept store foundations I've tried.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 29/04/2017 18:07

I tried NYX and it was ok but I've just bought L'Oréal infallible and it's a really natural matt finish. It's £10 in Boots.

Gah81 · 29/04/2017 18:18

I am super pale and find Max Factor is best match.

ApplePizza · 29/04/2017 18:31

Oooh I had forgotten about Max Factor.

I did think about abc, but their postage is expensive and I would like to try the texture before buying, so don't want to buy onlin if possible.
