Facial sunblock for sensitive pale skin?

If you have celtic type skin, that reacts badly to chemical type sunblock, what do you use on your face? I'm struggling to find something with a nice texture. I hate that matt but slightly tacky feel that some have, gives me a chalk on a blackboard feeling. I'm ok with the Avene one, but it does make me look a bit Bette Davis in "whatever happened to baby Jane?". I want something like a lovely face cream/ foundation, but factor 50, no Oxybenzone.

It would be helpful if I linked the La Roche Posay AOX. Loved it.

Do they not post to the UK? Maybe I can get an American friend to send it to me. I like the sound of the Neostrata one. It has aluminium in though, which although not something reactive, is linked to dementia among other things, so maybe not something I want to put on my face. Mind you titanium dioxide is carcinogenic if inhaled , and now it seems as though it may be the cause of bowel cancer if swallowed, research is being done. It is in loads of makeup and also in things like icing and white chocolate (E171). www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/01/170124124355.htm I've wondered about the safety of nano-particles for a while, I use mineral based suncare because chemical stuff triggers rashes and rosacea on my skin, and in the sea is bad for marine life, and now it seems mineral stuff could be ghastly too. So depressing!

Arse. Found the la roche Posay one on Amazon but it has Oxybenzone in. Strange, as many manufacturers have stopped using Oxybenzone as so many people become sensitive to it. But at least you can get some JohnCheese. It seemed it is on Strawberrynet too?

I like the La Roche Posay, but on top of that I use Heliocare compact 50spf foundation. It's a creamy compact but very light so a quick pat over my face adds to the protection and evens out my complexion really well.

Heliocare- I had forgotten about that brand, will have another google.

Do Vichy do a suncream?

user1488756360 · 28/04/2017 18:48

Avene too? Sorry don't know how to do links

Here is a link to the Moogoo. I thought it was worth a go for me because I'm fairly sure I'm not allergic to any of the ingredients (they do a very useful listing if you scroll down the product page) and, as I said, I'm not actually outside for long periods of time. If I were a beach babe in a hotter country I would probably need something stronger.

Clarins UV Plus. Goes on top of normal moisturiser. Nice silky finish. It is very white, though. I like it as it tones down my tendency to pinkness.

gladyoucame · 28/04/2017 20:44

Clinique Mineral sunscreen spf 50 (also do 30). Think it's new ish or so the sales assistant told me. No stinging around eyes which is usually where I get problems even with some of the Clarins sunscreen.

CreamCrackerundertheSettee · 28/04/2017 20:56

I too have sensitive pale skin along with pigmentation so need a really good spf. Has anyone got very dry skin? I've seen an ultrasun one designed for hyper pigmentation, has anyone with dry skin tried it or could recommend any of the others?

SirVixofVixHall · 28/04/2017 23:21

gladyoucame- the eye stinging is typical of oxybenzone.

CreamCracker - I have super dry skin and like the Neostrata one. I actually switched to a physical sunscreen because I wanted to wear serum and moisturiser underneath.

N0tfinished · 29/04/2017 08:29

Mentholatum SUNPLAY Super Block is Japanese. here

I'm not especially sensitive but am pale. This is physical I believe. I've tried a few Korean & Japanese and this is best physical screen I've tried. I'm very dry-skinned.

Ingredients are here

N0tfinished · 29/04/2017 08:33

Another option
goodal Mild Protect Natural Filter Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++

More of a European sunscreen feel. I use this one on the beach etc.

PollyPerky · 29/04/2017 09:38

I can recommend these:

Bare Minerals Prep Step- mineral sunscreen spf 50, it's a lotion that doubles up as a moisturiser. It goes on white, but within a few minutes changes colour to the colour of your skin. Don't ask me how.

Clinique City Block. the spf 25 is mineral based, the spf 40 is more chemical based. Both are good but a bit too tinted for very pale skin unless you want to use them as a foundation.

Sunsense is ok but I found it too coloured and a bit sticky.

rubybleu · 29/04/2017 10:49

Polly I nearly bought the Bare Minerals primer this morning so glad to know you like it. You've convinced me to buy it now!

I also think Sunsense is too tacky/sticky/dark. It's popular in Australia where I'm from & I don't understand the love!

PollyPerky · 29/04/2017 10:54

I like it! I don't think you need a moisturiser under it- I used to but have stopped now. The other thing is, you can apply quite a lot and it doesn't 'pill' like some sunblocks. Don't be surprised at how ghostly white it looks at first- but give it a few minutes and it turns kind of skin coloured.

FlorisApple · 29/04/2017 11:10

I second the Moogoo. I react to nearly all sunscreens, but not to this. I use the cover-up buttercup 15+ instead of a moisturiser everyday, and it is a little greasy, and does have a slight halo, but it's the best I've been able to find. Very gentle ingredients.
