Desperate for the best thing for sore lips

JustMuddlingOn · 26/04/2017 21:16

Absolutely desperate for the best thing for constantly dry and sore lips. Particularly at the corners currently. I use vaseline constantly and have tried pretty much everything else I can find.
Any recommendations?!

Carmex, not Carmel!!

tattychicken · 26/04/2017 21:56

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

Haffiana · 26/04/2017 21:58

Drink more water. Two litres more than you currently drink.

Acornantics · 26/04/2017 21:58

Just coconut oil, we use it on DSs dry lips overnight and it really helps.

BenjaminLinus · 26/04/2017 22:00

Clinique lip balm, sticky but brilliant

pineappleeyes · 26/04/2017 22:00

Elizabeth arden 8 hour protectant cream....aka magic cream.

JustMuddlingOn · 26/04/2017 22:06

Thanks for all the suggestions!
Been to the dr already three times.amd.two seperate blood tests when they were especially bad and they said there was nothing wrong that they could see.
Blistex, tube and pot, used to do it for me too but seems not to work anymore. Shame.
I have some lanolin tho so will definitely try that tonight to start with!

I suffer from this. I dribble in my sleep, I lick my lips when I am stressed and I'm allergic to some foods and most lipsticks. Maybe I also have a vitamin deficiency but the Dr didn't suggest blood tests.
I try not to have flare ups but then I get distracted. Getting older doesn't help, apparently either

I use Epiderm moisturiser, L'Occitane 100% Shea Butter and Fudicin on prescription if it looks infected.

OutandIntoday · 26/04/2017 22:38

Elizabeth arden 8 hour or Lucas Paw paw ( much cheaper) works every time for me

MidCenturyist · 26/04/2017 22:43

Burts Bees is the only thing that actually helps my lips recover as opposed to just providing temporary relief (discovered after suffering from chronic chapped lips after having flu last winter)

CherryMintVanilla · 26/04/2017 22:45

I only use Burt's Bees. I like it because it doesn't seem to cause that vicious circle dependency where your lips shrivel up the minute the product wears off. I apply it before I go to sleep and my lips stay soft all the next day. No chapping in years.

befuddledgardener · 26/04/2017 22:50

If the corners of your mouth are cracked, try giving up sugar.

Also drink water

pigeondujour · 27/04/2017 06:09

I have a terrible lip licking/wiping habit and have managed to eradicate the chapped corners by keeping my own moisturiser away from the corners of my lips and then putting E45 there, every day. Then I use Vaseline regularly to maintain a barrier. My chapped corners were really terrible before and constantly scabbed.

Biscuitswithtea · 27/04/2017 06:21

Trilogy Everything Balm - spendy but lasts for ages. It also saves my cracked hands in winter 🙂

MiriAmmerman · 27/04/2017 06:33

Nipple cream - Lansinoh or Avent (if you can get it). Got me through Roaccutane treatment in my early 20s, as well as chemo a couple of years ago, without so much as a flake Grin It heals up the corners of your mouth brilliantly too. Plaster it on overnight. It also looks lovely if you wear it in the day - very glossy - but you don't need to use so much in the day.

HumpHumpWhale · 27/04/2017 06:42

Colgate toothpaste causes problems for a LOT of people. Lanolin is great as lip balm. Or make your own from lanolin, shea butter and bees wax.

CountUpTo3 · 27/04/2017 07:24

Cicaplast from La Roche Posay - I thought I had coldsores at the corners of my mouth until the chemist recommended it. Not cheap, but lasts, and you only need to use a little bit:

Sciurus83 · 27/04/2017 07:54

I find 8 hour quite similar to vaseline in all honesty. Lanolips are great, they do a nice tinted balm if you find you need something over a longer term and want some colour. Another recommendation for rev De miel from Nuxe, I tend to slather that on at night

ringsnthings · 27/04/2017 08:55

It could be something called Cheilitis that's actually causing it to be sore. I would go back to the doctor if you're not getting relief from trying the usual go to remedies.

sammylady37 · 27/04/2017 09:00

Another vote for eliz Arden 8 he cream.

Dowser · 27/04/2017 10:49

The best thing ever...if you can still buy it....without a doubt

Pink germolene.

It heals them . It really does work a tiny little smear is all you need.
Try not to lick it .

Not the white though. I think the white has the oppposite effect.
I keep some in my handbag

We all have germs on our skin, maybe it deals with that.. sometimes ten to fifteen minutes is all you need and then wipe it off.

Also when my lips get dry, I know I haven't drunk enough water.
I also heard a keen at the side of your lips could be a sign of a zinc deficiency but I'm not certain about that.

MyfanwyMontez · 27/04/2017 10:56

Sudocreme works for me.Apply at night before bed.Vaseline seems to make things worse.
