Contact Lens Wearers - Any Tips?

I've just been for my first contact lens appointment where I had a 'trial and teach' yesterday. Whilst I was just about able to put the lenses in and remove them at the consultation (I practised three times) I am really struggling to put them in at home!
Any tips from experienced lens wearers? They are daily disposables from Boots.
Also, did you find that you needed to change your eye-make up or eye creams?

Those getting dry eyes or difficulty getting out once they're in, try the dailies. I used the monthly/fortnightly disposable for years and am a recent convert to dailies. They are so much more comfortable and you're less likely to put a dirty lens in your eye (therefore fewer sensitivities etc). The only downside is the price.

Yy to waterproof mascara

Also, always do your right eye first, then your left so that you get into a routine of putting in and out (less important if you are using disposables than ones where you have to clean them and change the saline solution etc etc, but still a good habit to be in)

I use a magnifying mirror to put mine in although I can just manage without if say I need to replace it during the day. I use dailies and have just changed to a new brand which are a bit thicker than the cheap own brand ones. They kept ripping. So my best advice is to avoid the cheaper one. Dailies are thinner than monthlies but better for me as I'm a lazy cow and wouldn't clean them properly!

I'm hoping to get back to wearing contact lenses and wondered if anyone buys theirs online?
I was getting monthly ones from Specsavers (£35/month), is it cheaper online?
Thanks 🙂

If you are not sure if they are the right way round then out the lenses in the crease below your little finger on your palm, gently Cup your palm, if the lense creases up it's the right way round! Does that make sense? Also I ALWAYS put a drop of solution on my lense before putting them in, it helps them to go in nicely and yuh don't get that horrible gritty feeling.

I wear daily ones from Specsavers.

I find them completely comfortable, can snooze with them in and they never, ever feel dry.

I don't like to touch the delicate skin around my eye so I just pop them in without any pulling up or down. To get them out, I slide them to the outer corner and out and then throw them on the floor.

I've been wearing them 30+ years and never use a mirror as my prescription is so strong I have to more or less press my nose onto it. I hold my eyelids open with the fingers of my LH and pop it in with the index finger of my RH. To get them out I pinch the two eyelids together and catch it in my fingers. No need to keep nails short with this technique. I use regular make-up but never line the waterlines. Hygiene is critical, you must not get water in your eyes so dry hands before handling and no swimming or showering in them.

Thanks everyone - great tips on here. I must admit that I'm still struggling - managed to get one pair in on the second day of trying but have thrown quite a few away as well. I'm going to practice again over the week-end and have my 'follow up' appointment next Tuesday.

Its hard. Some days they go in so easy and others it can take a few attempts. Its much harder with the daily ones for me. I use acuvue dailies mulitfocal lenses. I hold my eye open top and bottom and tend to look down and avoid blinking [ its easy to blink] and by then the suction takes hold and voila they are in. I do my shitiest eye first.

UppityHumpty · 28/04/2017 12:29

Using eyedrops might help as you'll probably not blink as much as you do without.
