How can I get shiny sleek hair?

Purplerainbow · 23/04/2017 13:35

My hair is coloured, I have tried various products but really struggling to get nice shiny hair? It's kind of a bit.... dull? I have a great hairdresser and a good cut so it isn't that. I need to use shampoo and conditioner that won't leave a build up but protects the colour? I must use a heat protector too. Any suggestions?? What have you found that works? I can't dry my hair like the hairdresser does on myself which doesn't help!

i have coloured hair and it is in good condition, and super soft and silky but i cannot get it to gleam either..i alternate bwteeen Philip Kingsley and pantenne ( i know awful for hair but mine loves it :))
I use keratase styling stuff and aussie curl define serum on the ends
i think mine is just coarse hair and wont ever really shine :(
this opalex stuff ..never heard of it ? would it help ? i don't think my hair is not gleaming cus of damage ...

Purplerainbow · 25/04/2017 16:20

Obv otdered some of the Philip Kingsley stuff to try. I need to find shampoo, conditioner, a volumiser (not major important though) and something to 'sleek' it sobmaybe a serum oh and a hairspray! Iv been using tresemme hair spray and Iv just tried a Toni and guy hairsprY and I hate that so my hair needs a really over haul! Hairdresser recommended tigi small talk but I don't find it makes a massive difference...

You don't want volumising stuff if you're after sleek and shiny, that fluffs your hair up.

What do you do to your hair? Drying and styling wise I mean.

This is the Liz Earle I use, and the matching conditioner:

uk.lizearle.com/haircare/botanical-shine-shampoo.html?gclid=CKrqr7qmwNMCFe2d7QodvXEFOw&gclsrc=aw.ds

I get through at least three shampoos to one conditioners. I also use a Parlux hairdryer, and a paddle brush to dry, both of which I think help.

Purplerainbow · 25/04/2017 20:30

So I first dry my side fringe as it curls otherwise, will use a round brush but I can't get the body in it the hairdresser does. Then I rough dry it with hairdryer and then section and dry running the same brush through using the nozzle of the hairdryer tab.

So completely blowdried?

Have you tried leaving it at 80% dry or using straighteners?

Not a hair expert btw, just have curly very prone to frizz hair and wondered if the blow drying might be a quicker fix than products.

Mine is fluffy if I completely blow dry it.

Purplerainbow · 25/04/2017 21:05

Sorry yes completely blow dried as I use ghd afterwards

RebelAllianceUK are you able to share your eBay seller for the decants? really want to give Opalex a go - but don't want to risk a fake...

Thanks x

Just ordered one treatment of olaplaex 1 & 2 from eBay and the bottle of number 3 from groupon. Fingers crossed!

TwoBeams · 26/04/2017 14:01

Have you tried using a babyliss big hair once it's 80% dried? Mine always makes my hair look perfectly blow dried.

Piratesandpants · 26/04/2017 14:07

Ok so this olaplex. Do I need all 3 steps??

Purplerainbow · 26/04/2017 15:42

No I haven't tried a babyliss although have heard of that one.... I wasn't sure if it would just be another gimmick or not!

It's bloody fabulous if you're looking for a polished look. Keep your receipt though, I think the motors burning out are a common fault.
I bought my first 18 months ago and the motor was going a bit slowly. I emailed amazon where I originally purchased it and got a replacement the next day though. 2 year warranty.

Purplerainbow · 26/04/2017 17:35

HMM ok, doesn't catch up in the hair does it?

Oh I love my baby kiss big hair! It can be a bit tricky to begin with but I watched some YouTube videos and now it's great. Sometimes my hair catches but the barrel turns both ways so you just undo what caused the tangle.

I have fairly similar fine and coloured hair to yours. The only thing that makes my hair sleek and shiny is kerastase - Bain satin 1 shampoo and a conditioning masque finished off with the elixir to style. Every 6 months I get fed up of paying for it and switch to Pantene/L'Oréal etc but can instantly tell the difference with how it feels and over time it starts to look dry and frizzy again. I have just switched back and after one wash my hair is back to shiny and the colour even looks better as it is no longer course as you described. It is expensive but I buy online from feel unique or hq hair which generally gave 20-30% off and you can also get cash back on feel unique (quidco or to seen can't remember).

My hairdresser does Olaplex for £30 which is a bargain! I really noticed the difference. I think normally it's more expensive though. Jerome Russell's Jplex Bond Maintainer Treatment is a bit Olaplexy though, and so is a good choice if you want to buy something off the shelf. Its about £12 for 250 ml and you can buy it in Boots - its fairly new. Otherwise go to Amazon and buy Olaplex no.3 - though you only get a small bottle.

clarifying shampoo once every few weeks, I read about a model (can't remember who) who swears by a wash in fairy liquid once a month, I tried it and it was amazing, felt all rough as it washed out but after conditioning it came out all soft and very very shiny.

Saggingninja · 30/04/2017 15:16

Coconut oil is super cheap. I use it on my skin and hair.

Hair - massage it into dry hair. I sleep on it and shampoo out the next day. Use shampoo with low sulfates. (I only shampoo once and use Tresemme low sulfates. Condition. Final rinse with a spoonful of white vinegar. Rinse with cold water.

My hair is thick and wavy with a tendency to frizz. It has never looked better. Smile

Purplerainbow · 30/04/2017 19:51

I have coconut oil but reluctant to put it on my hair! I worry it will end up a claggy, matted mess!
