Uber-sophisticated colleague - what wedding present?

PinkCloudDweller · 22/04/2017 21:51

This is a second wedding for both - she's possibly 60 (but looks mid-40s and is ultra-chic), he's probably around 70. She is the sort of person who has everything and has great taste - a bit quirky too but in an elegant way.

What on earth do I give them for their wedding... They won't be living together so it's even trickier, I'm just thinking of getting a fashion gift just for her, or would that be inappropriate?

Theatre tickets or theatre voucher which they can use to book something themselves

Neon diffuser or candle

We got vouchers forb'blue book' hotels in Ireland as a wedding present. A group of independent hotels and guest houses but the vouchers could be used across them all.
Was excellent.

Voucher for afternoon tea

Basically anything consumable!

FreeButtonBee · 22/04/2017 22:00

Or a beautiful coffee table book on something that might interest them.

I clicked on this thread because I thought
It was about me but I'm only 21 so it can't be Wink

ImperialBlether · 22/04/2017 22:03

Grin Pippa.

Theatre tickets would be really good. Why aren't they going to live together?

mammmamia · 22/04/2017 22:03

What's your budget?

libertydoddle · 22/04/2017 22:07

Good bottle of champagne or wine.

Bitchycocktailwaitress · 22/04/2017 22:10

My friend got us a watercolour of our venue, she sent a photo to a lady on Esty. It is my absolute favourite present!

thecatfromjapan · 22/04/2017 22:10

Antique champagne glasses?

thecatfromjapan · 22/04/2017 22:13

Depends on your friendship, though, really. It's a bit odd to only buy a present for her - but I guess you know them both better than we do.

I think it might be a little odd to buy a present just for her.

And you're right - the not living together is also tricky.

I think I might go with a good bottle of wine/champagne. You can always get her something more meaningful as an add on, then (if you want to).

ImperialBlether · 22/04/2017 22:16

I would really hate it if someone bought a picture - it's such a personal thing. And they have two residences - where would it go?

friskybivalves · 22/04/2017 22:18

A wonderful wooden breadboard or cheeseboard with the date of the wedding carved into the rim with their names? Presumably they will occasionally eat together even if they're not living together! If you DM me I will give you the name of an amazing bloke who carves them by hand. They're about £100.

Skyllo30 · 22/04/2017 22:19

Voucher for a nice meal?

friskybivalves · 22/04/2017 22:20

Oops. Just realised you're talking about a colleague and £100 will be waaaaaaaaaay over the top.

A bridgewater personalised plate or similar with their names on?

PinkCloudDweller · 22/04/2017 22:28

Well, she's a colleague but also a friend. I'm invited to the meal with my OH and would like to spend at least £100 on the present.

There are some great ideas here, thanks!

If they don't live together I'd avoid houseware.

It's meant to be a present for them both.

You haven't mentioned a budget.

I think concert/theatre tickets are a good option buy pricy.

Alternatively what about a hamper from Fortnum and Mason - they start at £50.

Something like this would be nice that they could enjoy together

EatsShitAndLeaves · 22/04/2017 22:32

I bought this one for my parents and they loved it.

highinthesky · 22/04/2017 22:36

If they like gardening and have the space, why not buy them a young rose bush? They can enjoy it May-Nov every year.

StealthPolarBear · 22/04/2017 22:39

Vouchers for argos or asda ;)

Glitteryfrog · 23/04/2017 07:44

John Lewis voucher.

PaperdollCartoon · 23/04/2017 08:29

Theatre vouchers a great option - theatre tokens are amazing and can be used just about anywhere.
